The correspondent reported that more than four Humvees threatened to kill any child who points a toy gun at a US Marine or US military patrol. The Americans claimed that they could not distinguish between the toy guns sold to children and real weapons. The Americans also said that fireworks might cause US troops to lose control and open fire on children or other civilians. Upon hearing the American announcement, parents brought their children into their houses and ordered them not to go outside despite it being a festival time for fear of what might befall them at the hands of the US occupation forces.
