Resistance downs US Black Hawk helicopter Sunday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 4:20pm Mecca time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, Iraqi Resistance forces had shot down an American Black Hawk over the city of al-Hadithah in western Iraq.

The al-Hadithah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that Resistance fighters fired a shoulder-launched anti-aircraft misile at the helicopter as it was engaged in a reconnaissance mission.

The missile struck the aircraft and brought it down instantly, killing its crew of two. Afterwards US troops surrounded the crash site and at the time of writing were working to recover the bodies of the crewmen and the wreckage of the aircraft. Local residents and journalists were being kept away.

Resistance bomb blasts US patrol Sunday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a patrol of US Humvees in the city of al-Hadithah at about 3pm local time Sunday afternoon.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the city reported eyewitnesses in the area as saying that a bomb that had been planted under the sidewalk by the side of the road that goes to the center of town blew up as a US patrol was driving by.

The explosion completely destroyed one of the Humvees, the witnesses said, killing or wounding its crew of four American troops.

Five US troops reported killed in ambush by al-Haqlaniyah Bridge.

In a dispatch posted at 10:25am Mecca time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that violent fighting erupted between Iraqi Resistance forces and US occupation troops on the road linking the city of al-Hadithah in western Iraq with the village of al-Haqlaniyah to the east of it.

The al-Hadithah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that the clashes broke out when Resistance fighters equipped with light and medium arms, including RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades and PKS machine guns, attacked a column of two US armored vehicles and two Zeal troop transports near the al-Haqlaniyah Bridge. The Resistance fighters totally destroyed one of the Zeal troop carriers and one armored vehicle, killing at least five US troops and wounding six others.

Ath-Tharthar.

Resistance bomb blasts US column on farm road late Sunday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military column east of the city of ath-Tharthar at 5pm local time Sunday afternoon.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in ath-Tharthar, northwest of Baghdad, reported eyewitnesses as saying that a bomb that had been planted in the middle of an unpaved farm road east the town blew up under a US personnel carrier that was a part of a column of several troop carriers and Humvees.

The witnesses reported that the blast completely destroyed the troop carrier and killed or wounded at least six American soldiers.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance bombards US-Iraqi puppet army camp in Sunday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired two 82mm mortar rounds into the joint US-Iraqi puppet army camp set up in the al-Jaghifi neighborhood in northern al-Fallujah at 4pm local time Sunday afternoon.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses in al-Jaghifi as saying that the mortar rounds scored direct hits on the camp. No information on the nature or extent of casualties was available.

Abu Ghurayb.

US helicopter shoots Iraqi planting bomb in Abu Ghurayb.

US forces shot and killed an Iraqi Resistance fighter Sunday morning as he was trying to plant a bomb in Abu Ghurayb, 30km west of Baghdad.

The Abu Ghurayb correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a medical source in Abu Ghurayb Hospital as saying that young man aged 25 was killed Sunday morning when he was trying to plant a bomb by the sid of a road. An American Apache helicopter that was prowling the area at the time opened fire on him, striking him with seven bullets.

The source reported that US forces took the body and all the papers and other documents he had in his possession apparently for the purposes of finding out his identity. They then dumped the body near the water treatment pumping station.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported a witness as saying that US and Iraqi puppet army forces had encircled the main street in the area, for fear that other bombs might have been planted there. In a dispatch posted at 11:05am Mecca time Sunday morning, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that so far the American side had made no mention of the incident.

Baghdad.

Sunni religious leader assassinated Sunday morning.

In a bulletin posted at 11:20am Mecca time Sunday morning, the Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, unknown people had killed Shaykh Mawlud at-Turki, who was regarded as one of the prominent Sunni religious scholars, a jurisconsult or “mufti.”

The incident took place when Shaykh at-Turki was leaving his home in northern Baghdad’s al-A‘zamiyah district Sunday morning. An informed source in the Abu Hanifah an-Nu‘man mosque, which is located near the Shaykh’s home, told Mafkarat al-Islam that a sniper shot the shaykh as he was leaving his house, killing him instantly.

Shaykh at-Turki, 70 years old, was a highly-reputed religious scholar in Iraq. He was also the Imam and preacher in the ad-Dahhan mosque in the middle of al-A‘zamiyah. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that his views carried weight among the Sunni population, particularly as regards their attitude towards the US occupation.

Six US troops reported killed in fighting between American forces, Jaysh al-Mahdi militia in “Madinat as-Sadr” district Sunday morning.

Violent fighting erupted between US occupation troops and members of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia loyal to Shi‘i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr in the eastern part of Baghdad Sunday morning.

In a dispatch posted at 10:55am Mecca time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police, who works in the area of operations in the Baghdad district dubbed “Madinat as-Sadr,” as saying that six US troops were killed in the fighting.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported an Iraqi medical source as saying that the fighting had ended for the time being, but that the Jaysh al-Mahdi was awaiting orders as to what to do next.

A spokesman for the US military acknowledged that fighting had broken out but said that there had been no American casualties. Sources in the Iraqi puppet police as well as eyewitnesses, however, spoke of six US soldiers as having been killed and one Humvee disabled and another destroyed, Mafkarat al-Islam quoted the source as saying.

Quds Press reported a source in the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia as saying “an American military force accompanied by an Iraqi unit entered the northern neighborhoods of Madinat as-Sadr (where about 1 million people live) in the early predawn hours of Sunday morning. This prompted a number of Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters to resist the American Marines, who responded by opening fire indiscriminately on houses, killing 10 civilians and wounding others.”

Quds Press reported that the official version issued by the US-installed “Iraqi Interior Ministry” said that fighting erupted when US and Iraqi puppet army forces tried to arrest a number of members of the Muqtada as-Sadr movement and leaders of the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia. The official version says that the Jaysh al-Mahdi opened fire intensively at US and Iraqi puppet army forces, forcing them to return fire and sparking a firefight that lasted about an hour and a half and resulted in the deaths of a number of Jaysh al-Mahdi militiamen.

Quds Press reported that Madinat as-Sadr was in morning on Sunday for those who were killed and a mass funeral was set for the early afternoon.

Later on Sunday, US Marines closed the main exits and entrances from the Madinat as-Sadr district, preventing residents from getting to their places of work. US vehicles closed roads and set up checkpoints around the area of eastern Baghdad.

Ten puppet “shock troops” reported killed in car bomb attack in eastern Baghdad.

An Iraqi Resistance fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a patrol of the US-installed “Iraqi Interior Ministry Shock Troops” in the al-Ghadir area of eastern Baghdad on Sunday. A source in the Iraqi puppet police told Quds Press that the explosion killed 10 Iraqi members of the “Shock Troops.”

The source said that two vehicles belonging to the “Shock Troops” were destroyed by the powerful blast. The source said that the explosion also destroyed a number of civilian cars in the area and damaged nearby shops. Several civilians who were nearby were also reportedly injured in the attack.

One US soldier reported killed in Sunday morning bombing on highway near ad-Durah.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol on the highway near the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah at 8am local time Sunday morning.

The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported passing motorists who witnessed the bombing as saying that a bomb that had been planted by the side of the highway exploded when an American patrol of several armored Humvees was driving past. The blast set one of the vehicles on fire, killing one US soldier and wounding two more.

After the explosion, US occupation forces encircled the area and recovered the body of the soldier who had been killed as well as their wounded men and the wreckage of the Humvee.

Samarra’.

Resistance bomb near Samarra’ wounds three US soldiers at dawn Sunday.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the an-Nu‘ayriyah area east of Samarra’ at 6am local time Sunday.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Samarra’, 120km north of Baghdad, reported residents of an-Nu‘ayriyah who witnessed the bombing as saying that an explosive device that had been planted in the middle of an unpaved dirt road blew up as the US patrol was passing by at dawn. The explosion damaged one Humvee, wounding three US troops who were aboard it.

At-Tarimiyah.

Resistance ambushes US truck convoy early Sunday.

In a dispatch posted at 10:35am Mecca time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters ambushed a US truck convoy loaded with supplies for American occupation forces on the road to at-Tarimiyah, north of Baghdad.

Eyewitnesses in at-Tarimiyah told Mafkarat al-Islam that Resistance fighters equipped with light and medium arms attacked the column of eight trucks and three Humvees, setting one of the trucks on fire and heavily damaging a second. One truck driver working for the US military was killed in the assault.

Babil Province.

Al-Musayyib.

Foreigner working with US occupation forces reported killed in ambush of convoy south of Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted at 11:55am Mecca time Sunday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters equipped with PKS machine guns and other automatic weapons ambushed a convoy of armor-plated vehicles of the type used by foreigners working with the US occupation forces in the city of al-Musayyib on the highway that runs from Baghdad to the south.

The al-Musayyib correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that Resistance fighters attacked the convoy of four armor-plated cars and heavily damaged two of them. One foreigner was killed and three others wounded. The witnesses also said that two Resistance fighters were slightly wounded in the clash, but were able to withdraw with their comrades afterwards.

Al-Hillah.

Sectarian bombing in al-Hillah.

About 40 Iraqis were killed or injured in the city of al-Hillah, south of Baghdad on Sunday when a person on a booby-trapped bicycle drove into a crowded market in a mostly Shi‘i section of the city and blew up.

Quds Press reported that four civilians were killed, one of them a little girl, and 36 others wounded. Numerous shops near the scene of the explosion were also destroyed as black smoke rose over the normally crowded market. Puppet police cordoned off the area after the blast as emergency personnel worked to evacuate the injured to nearby hospitals.

The Iraqi Resistance, which is fighting for the expulsion of the occupation and the unity of Iraq within the Arab Nation has repeatedly emphasized that it does not attack civilians, nor does it target any religious community, but only the US occupation forces and the US-installed regime and its puppet security, police, and military forces. The partition of Iraq, on the other hand, has been promoted by various “think tanks” in the US and Britain. Sectarian attacks that serve to split the population have been on the upsurge as it has increasingly become obvious that long-term US control of Iraq is an impossibility. The recent “declaration of war on the Shi‘ah” proclaimed by Jordanian Islamist Abu Mus‘ab az-Zarqawi advances the cause of the proponents of the partition of Iraq and has been sharply denounced by the Iraqi Resistance.

Ninwa Province.

Mosul.

Resistance ambushes joint US-Iraqi puppet army patrol Sunday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 5:45pm Mecca time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a joint US-Iraqi puppet army patrol in Mosul.

A source in the puppet “Iraqi Rapid Deployment Force” told Mafkarat al-Islam that a group of Resistance fighters equipped with light and medium arms and RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades attacked a joint patrol, sparking a 15-minute fire fight.

The Resistance attackers set US Humvee and one pickup belonging to the Iraqi puppet army on fire. Two US soldiers and one Iraqi puppet army soldier were killed in the ambush and four other soldiers ﾐ one of them American ﾐ were wounded. The source said that two of the Resistance fighters also died in the clash and one Resistance fighter was wounded.

US carries out mass arrests in Mosul.

US occupation troops launched an extensive campaign of raids and arrests in the industrial zone in the middle of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Sunday.

The Mosul correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that American troops surrounded the industrial zone and adjacent neighborhoods in the city and began storming houses. The US troops arrested about 100 young Iraqi men between the ages of 15 and 40 on charges of carrying out attacks on the American occupation forces and the Iraqi puppet army, and of helping Iraqi Resistance formations.
