Friday, 19 August 2005.
Al-Anbar Province.
Hit.
US helicopter rockets wedding party, killing nine Iraqi civilians.
An American helicopter on Thursday night opened fire on an Iraqi wedding party in the western city of Hit.
The Hit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at 8pm local time Thursday, A US aircraft that was prowling the skies in the area fired a rocket at a gathering of Iraqis in the middle of the city who were celebrating the wedding of one of the young people in the neighborhood.
A source in the city hospital told the correspondent on Friday that the rocket attack killed nine people and wounded three more. Two children and three women were among the dead and wounded.
In his report posted at 9:40am Mecca time Friday morning, the correspondent wrote that so far no US statement had appeared regarding the attack.
It was the fourth known time in which US forces had attacked a wedding party since they occupied Iraq in the spring of 2003. American forces attacked a wedding in the al-Qa’im area in 2004; another wedding in al-Fallujah; and a third in the northern city of Tall ‘Afar. In those cases, the US justified its attack by claiming that Resistance fighters were among the guests at the parties.
Al-Fallujah.
Seven US troops killed as bomb blasts troop carrier snooping on mosque services.
A high-explosive Iraqi Resistance bomb that was planted some 200 meters from the Abu al-Khayl Mosque in the west of al-Fallujah blew up under a US troop transport at 2:15pm local time Friday afternoon.
The American military vehicle had been parked near the mosque, as usual on Fridays, when US troops with interpreters monitor the sermons delivered in all Muslim places of worship in the country, poised to arrest the preacher and members of the congregation if they speak out against the occupation.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the bomb exploded as the worshippers were leaving the mosque. The blast destroyed the US troop carrier, killing seven of the American soldiers who were in it.
A source in the Iraqi puppet army confirmed that the blast killed seven US troops, adding that four people “suspected of involvement in the bombing” had been arrested afterwards.
The worshippers, for their part, said that the people arrested by the US troops had attended the services and were inside the mosque, not out planting a bomb, prior to the blast.
Ar-Ramadi.
US troops storm al-Anbar University campus Friday evening.
In a dispatch posted at 7pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in ar-Ramadi reported that a short while earlier, US forces backed with armored vehicles had stormed al-Anbar University in the west of ar-Ramadi.
The correspondent ミ who was near the University campus that includes colleges of medicine, dentistry, engineering, education, literature and law ミ reported that the American forces began kicking in and breaking down doors and searching halls in the colleges, one after the other.
The correspondent reported that the American forces arrested all the campus security guards without giving any reason for why they have suddenly stormed onto the University campus.
Baghdad.
Resistance denies involvement in Wednesday bombing of civilian taxi stop, blames agents of Zionist and Crusader intelligence for the deadly blast.
The various armed groups making up the Iraqi Resistance issued a unified communiqu on Friday morning that was distributed around numerous mosques in Baghdad announcing that the Resistance was not behind the bombing at a Baghdad taxi stop on Wednesday, 17 August 2005, that took place in central Baghdad in which more than 52 Iraqis, including women and children, were killed.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the communiqu, which bore the signatures of al-Qa‘idah, the First Army of Muhammad, the Ansar as-Sunnah, the Army of the Mujahideen, the Brigades of the Victor Salah ad-Din, and a group of other fighting organizations confirmed that none of those organizations was responsible for that attack, which they denounced as an act aimed at sullying the reputation of the Iraqi Resistance. The communiqu accused what it called “agents of Zionist intelligence and the Crusader Forces” of being behind that bombing.
The communiqu, a copy of which was obtained by the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent, said, “We, al-Qa‘idah in Iraq, the Army of Muhammad, the Army of the Ansar as-Sunnah, the Army of the Mujahideen, the Brigades of the Victor Salah ad-Din, and a group of other fighting organizations, declare that we were not responsible for the bombing attack that killed a large number of Muslims. We affirm that we had no part in it in any way whatsoever. We are continuing our jihad against the occupation wherever it might be on every inch of the land of Iraq and the land of the Muslims.
Some press reports blamed the Iraqi Resistance for the attack, claiming that since it took place at a taxi stand where migrant workers come and go from the predominantly Shi‘i provinces of the south of the country, (while nearby taxi stands for trips to predominantly Sunni areas were unscathed) that the attack was aimed at killing Shi‘ah. ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim, the head of the pro-American Shi‘i sectarian so-called Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) and the “Prime Minister” of the puppet regime, also a Shi‘i sectarian politician, Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari both blamed the Iraqi Resistance for the bombing and claimed that the Resistance was trying to provoke “civil war.”
The bombing and the quick denunciations by pro-US Shi‘i sectarian leaders came as those same leaders were working feverishly to draw up a constitution that would enshrine the principle of sectarian division of Iraq under a confederal dissolution of the country.
Puppet regime’s “Defense Minister” admits 35 prisoners tortured to death.
Sa‘dun ad-Dulaymi, the “Minister of Defense” in the puppet regime in Baghdad told a press conference in the occupied Iraqi capital late on Thursday that a number of Sunni prisoners who were held in prisons in al-Yusufiyah, al-Latifiyah, and al-Mada’in had died under torture during interrogation.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad reported the “Minister” as saying, “I am not ashamed to acknowledge that extent of moral excesses that take place in the ranks of the Iraqi puppet army because we will take control of the matter and set up a committee to investigate it.”
Replying to a question from a journalist about the Sunni prisoners who died as a result of torture in prisons, ad-Dulaymi said that they numbered 35, according to a count that they had made. He explained that the officers who carried out the interrogations were not experts in that field.
Asked about measures that the regime was taking to fight the Resistance, ad-Dulaymi said that they were now issuing a law that would say that a person who hid an Iraqi or other Arab “terrorist” in his house would himself be treated as a “terrorist.”
Ad-Dulaymi’s admission that prisoners have been killed under torture came following repeated accusations to that effect by the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ scholars, the highest religious authority for Sunni Muslims in occupied Iraq.
Sunni and Shi‘i demonstrators denounce sectarian federalist partition plans for Iraq.
Mass demonstrations took place following Friday midday prayers as hundreds of followers of the Shi ‘ followers of Muqtada as-Sadr joined Sunnis led by the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars to oppose plans to lay the groundwork for a sectarian partition of Iraq.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad reported that rallies filled most streets of the Iraqi capital denouncing federalism as tantamount to the partition of Iraq and the ripping apart of its people.
Demonstrators denounced the hand of Iran for being behind the moves to split their country, and establish a pro-Iranian regime in the southern provinces of Iraq. “No, No to partition! No, No, to a split!” protestors chanted as they denounced the “federalism” cause championed by pro-American Shi‘i cleric ‘Ali as-Sistani and the Shi‘i sectarian so-called Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI).
Other demonstrators carried signs saying: “From al-Fallujah to al-Kufah, this is our homeland and we won’t let it go!” and “Brothers Sunnah and Shi‘ah, this is our homeland and we’re not selling it!”
Babil Province.
Al-Iskandariyah.
US admits 65-year-old prisoner died in custody.
A 65-year old Iraqi being held by US occupation forces in al-Iskandariyah, south of Baghdad has died in custody. Agence France Presse (AFP) as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US military issued a statement saying that the man was arrested on Thursday during joint US and Iraqi puppet troop raids in al-Iskandariyah. The American announcement said that an investigation into the death was underway.
Diyala Province.
Ba‘qubah.
Resistance bombards US base near Ba‘qubah early Friday morning.
Iraqi Resistance forces fired four Grad rockets into the US base set up in the al-Kharnabat area near Ba‘qubah, northeast of Baghdad, at 6am local time Friday morning.
Witnesses told the Ba‘qubah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that clouds of smoke rose over the US-occupied facility after the bombardment. Explosions could be heard coming from inside the camp as well.
Salah ad-Din Province.
Tikrit.
Seven puppet police killed in clashes in Tikrit at dawn.
Intermittent fighting erupted at dawn on Friday between Iraqi Resistance fighters and Iraqi puppet police forces in the city of Tikrit, some 180km north of Baghdad.
The Tikrit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the Iraqi puppet army as saying that the clashes broke out at 4am local time at the intersection of 40 Street in the middle of the city. Resistance fighters were armed with light and medium weapons. Later, Resistance fighters also fired shoulder-launched rockets.
The source said that seven puppet policemen were killed in the fighting, and five others were wounded. After the clashes, the Resistance fighters left the scene.
The Salafi Salah ad-Din al-Ayyubi Group announced its responsibility for the attack in a communiqu that was posted on one of the city mosques. The communiqu said that all the Resistance fighters in the group returned safely, having suffered no deaths or injuries.
The attack came a few days after Baqir Jabr Sulagh, the “Minister of the Interiror” in the puppet regime, announced that the regime was about to “crush” the Resistance in Tikrit on its own and needed no help from US forces. Tikrtit residents regard the Friday morning clash as the answer from the Resistance to Sulagh’s boast.
Ninwa Province.
Mosul.
US soldier reported killed in early morning Resistance bombing in Mosul.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded in the al-Islah az-Zira‘i area of Mosul at 7am Friday morning.
A source in the Mosul puppet police told the local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that a bomb exploded by a US military column that was passing through the neighborhood. The blast disabled one US Humvee, killing one American soldier and wounding four others.
After the blast, US forces encircled the entire area, preventing anyone from approaching until all the casualties had been evacuated and they had withdrawn from the area.
Al-Basrah Province.
Camp Bucca.
Resistance bombards Camp Bucca Friday morning.
In a bulletin posted at 10:25am Mecca time Friday morning, the al-Basrah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier Iraqi Resistance forces had fired four surface-to-surface rockets into the northern parts of the Camp Bucca prison camp where occupation forces hold more than 7,000 Iraqi prisoners. The northern part of the facility is believed to be the area where US forces and prison guards are concentrated.
The correspondent reported that the barrage sent clouds of smoke billowing into the sky, covering most of the prison camp area. Helicopters were seen in the sky overhead and the wail of sirens could be heard coming from different areas of the prison.
