Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Qa’im.
US encircles al-Qa’im at dawn Wednesday, threatening new attack.
US occupation forces backed up by dozens of armored vehicles and under cover of helicopter gunships and fighter planes surrounded and sealed off the city of al-Qa’im, located near the border with Syria, at dawn on Wednesday.
The al-Qa’im correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im reported that US vehicles completely surrounded the area of al-‘Ubaydi south of al-Qa’im at 6am local time Wednesday. The American forces prevented anyone from entering or leaving the town.
Then at 6:15am the Americans completely surrounded the villages of ar-Rummanah and Sa‘dah as well. They dropped leaflets calling on Resistance fighters to surrender within two hours, and threatening that if they did not the people of the city would suffer “harsh punishment.”
The correspondent reported that at the time of writing of his report ミ posted at 10:55am Mecca time Wednesday morning ミ the Resistance had not replied to the US threats. The city also was still peaceful; no clashes or confrontations between the two sides having occurred. But movement inside the city was virtually at a standstill because of the US blockade.
Baghdad.
Two US troops reported killed in roadside bombing in western part of Baghdad.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a passing US patrol in the al-Jami‘i area to the west of Baghdad at midday Wednesday.
The Baghdad correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a bomb that was planted by the side of the main road in the al-Jami‘i area near the al-Mulla Huwaysh Mosque blew up as a patrol of four Humvees passed by.
Witnesses told the correspondent that the blast destroyed one of the Humvees, killing two US soldiers and wounding two more.
Three powerful explosions reportedly take large toll of civilian lives in downtown Baghdad early Wednesday.
Three powerful explosions shook the middle of Baghdad early Wednesday morning, killing and wounding dozens, most of them civilians, Quds Press reported from Baghdad in a dispatch posted at 6:12 GMT Wednesday.
Quds Press quoted a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that two bombs exploded Wednesday morning near a puppet police station by the entrance to the an-Nahdah Garage in the middle of Baghdad. Several minutes later a car with a bomb int it exploded near the hospital closest to the place where the first two bombs went off.
The puppet police source told Quds Press that the first two blasts were not from car bombs, as some media had reported, but from bombs planted by the side of the road.
Witnesses told the correspondent that the blasts were the result of a series of car bombs exploding. The first was aimed at a puppet police car, and the second going off as police were working to evacuate casualties from the first blast. The witnesses said that the third car bomb went off after the arrival of a local puppet police unit.
Quds Press quoted the witnesses as saying that the blasts destroyed a large number of Iraqi puppet police cars, and killed and wounded a large number of the puppet police personnel manning them ミ in addition to civilians.
Sources in al-Kindi Hospital, located near the scene of the attacks, and in the People’s an-Najah Hospital, at least 37 Iraqis were killed in the three blasts, and about 50 or 60more were injured, some of them seriously. Dozens of private cars were set ablaze in the attacks sending black smoke billowing into the sky over the Garage area.
Witnesses said that ambulances raced to the scene and transported dead and wounded. Private cars and police cars were also used to evacuate casualties.
The blasts broke a three-week lull in bomb attacks in the occupied Iraqi capital, though ambushes and individual assassinations continued, targeting US military and Iraqi puppet police personnel.
Resistance bombards “green zone” as puppet “parliament” works on draft “constitution.”
In a bulletin posted at 11:30am Mecca time Wednesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before, Iraqi Resistance forces had fired four heavy mortar rounds into the Republican palace area of central Baghdad ミ the district known to the US occupation forces as the “green zone” where the headquarters of US occupation forces and the puppet “Iraqi government” are located under top security protection.
At the time of the attack the so-called “Iraqi national assembly” elected and convened under US-imposed regulations and under US aegis, were discussing the draft “constitution” that Washington is eager to impose on occupied Iraq.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad reported that four explosions were heard even from a long distance away and that smoke billowed from the area that was attacked.
At the time of writing, US helicopters were flying over the compound in large numbers. No information was available on the nature or extent of casualties or damage.
Babil Province.
Al-Mahmudiyah.
Two US troops reported killed in roadside bomb in al-Mahmudiyah.
In a dispatch posted at 2:30pm Mecca time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US foot patrol in the town of al-Mahmudiyah south of Baghdad.
The al-Mahmudiyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local witnesses as saying that a bomb that was planted under a rubbish pile by the side of the main road int the al-Bu Shadid area west of al-Mahmudiyah exploded by the passing American patrol of soldiers on foot accompanied by several Humvees. The correspondent reported that the blast killed two US soldiers and wounded three other American troops.
Al-Yusufiyah.
US Humvee plunges into swamp, three Americans reported killed.
Three American soldiers were killed on Wednesday when their Humvee fell into a swampy area in al-Yusufiyah, south of Baghdad.
The accident happened in the area of a water-treatment facility that was built and operated by the government of the Republic of Iraq prior to the US invasion. After the US attack and occupation of the country in spring 2003, the water-treatment facility fell idle and neglected. The area has now become a swamp full of mud and brackish water.
A source in the Iraqi puppet police told Mafkarat al-Islam’s correspondent in al-Yusufiyah that a Humvee fell into the swamp as it was on a routine patrol in the area. Three soldiers were killed but two others were pulled out and taken immediately to the nearest US base after the incident.
Residents of the area told Mafkarat al-Islam that the American Humvee completely sank in the swamp water, which was so thick with mud that the soldiers couldn’t get out. The soldiers called for help to local people but the children in the area only replied by throwing rocks at them. Later, other American troops arrived on the scene and were able to rescue two of the men.
A source in the puppet “Scorpion Brigade” told Mafkarat al-Islam that the cause of the accident lay in the driver’s recklessness. He had been driving at “crazy speed” through the swamp area because there are frequent Resistance attacks there.
The source said that afterwards, the Americans brought in cranes that hauled the bodies and the Humvee out of the bog. All were taken to a US base located west of al-Yusufiyah.
Salah ad-Din Province.
at-Tarimiyah.
Resistance fighters attack US patrol north of Baghdad at midday Wednesday.
Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a joint patrol of US troops and Iraqi puppet soldiers on the main road west of at-Tarimiyah, northwest of Baghdad at 12:30pm local time Wednesday.
Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in at-Tarimiyah that about 11 Resistance fighters armed with light weapons and pipe rockets attacked the joint patrol, sparking a five-minute fire fight. Two Humvees were set ablaze and four US soldiers were killed and three other Americans wounded in the clash. Two Iraqi puppet troops were killed and one other seriously wounded.
The area where the engagement occurred was surrounded by US troops afterwards, under cover of heavy air support from helicopters. The Americans began searching houses and farm fields near the scene of the attack, looking for the Resistance fighters, but to no avail as of the time of writing, the correspondent reported.
Diyala Province.
Khan Bani Sa‘d.
Sunni Shaykh assassinated early Wednesday: Badr Brigades suspected.
Members of the Shi‘i sectarian Badr Brigades militia assassinated Sunni Shaykh ‘Ali ash-Shamari, a member of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars and the Imam of the al-Jannabi Mosque in the town of Khan Bani Sa‘d near Ba‘qubah, northeast of Baghdad.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Ba‘qubah reported witnesses as saying that armed men wearing Iraqi puppet police uniforms opened fire on Shaykh ash-Shamari when he came out of his house on his way to the mosque at 7:30am Wednesdady morning, local time. The Shaykh reportedly died instantly.
The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ issued a statement announcing the martyrdom of Shaykh ‘Ali ash-Shamari, noting that his assassination came amidst a series of murders carried out by mercenary forces that targeted members of the Board. The purpose of this series of killings, the Board said, is to try to shake the principled positions of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ the supreme religious authority for Sunni Muslims in occupied Iraq. “These criminal acts will only increase the Board’s commitment and firmness in holding on to its principles,” the statement said, according to a report carried by Mafkarat al-Islam.
At-Ta’mim Province.
Kirkuk.
Resistance pounds US base in Kirkuk Airport with Grad rockets Wednesday night.
Iraqi Resistance forces fired six powerful Grad rockets into the US base set up in Kirkuk International Airport, some 255km north of Baghdad.
A source in the Iraqi puppet army told the Kirkuk correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that six Grad rockets had blasted into various parts of the occupied airport, killing or wounding a number of US troops.
The correspondent observed US helicopters coming in over the airport but without landing ミ something they would normally do to pick up casualties.
Ninwa Province.
Mosul
Resistance bombards US al-Ghazlani base in Mosul.
Iraqi Resistance forces unleashed a fierce rocket bombardment on the US al-Ghazlani base, the main American base in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Wednesday, according to a Mafkarat al-Islam report posted at 5:35pm Mecca time Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses told the Mosul correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the attack came in two waves. The resistance first fired four medium-range Katyusha rockets into the northern parts of the base. Then about five minutes later, four more Katyusha rockets blasted into the same part of the US-occupied facility.
The bombardments set fires raging and smoke billowing over the base. The sound of the powerful explosions could be heard throughout all the areas adjacent to the facility. American helicopters were then seen over the base and surrounding areas.
Tall ‘Afar.
Resistance shoots down unmanned US spy plane Wednesday morning.
Iraqi Resistance forces shot down an unmanned US reconnaissance plane that was on a spy mission in the al-‘Ayadiyah area north of Tall ‘Afar in the northern part of Iraq at 9am local time Wednesday morning.
Witnesses told the Tall ‘Afar correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that Resistance fighters were able to shoot down the drone plane with light RPK machine guns, scoring a direct hit on the aircraft and bringing it down 2km north of al-‘Ayadiyah.
After the downing, US forces encircled the area where the unmanned spy plane crashed and hauled away the wreckage.
Irbil Province.
Irbil.

In a dispatch posted at 8:15pm Mecca time Wednesday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short time earlier, powerful explosions had rocked the south Korean base in the city of Irbil, some 350km north of Baghdad.
The Irbil correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported hearing the wail of warning sirens coming from inside the Korean-occupied camp and in its environs. South Korean occupation troops together with Kurdish pro-occupation Peshmergah militiamen were seen surrounding the base area.
