Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Tuesday, 9 August 2005
By: Muhammad Abu Nasr on: 09.08.2005 [22:45 ] (72 reads)

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.

Tuesday, 9 August 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Hadithah.

US aircraft savagely bomb al-Hadithah, destroying mosque, ancient manuscript library.

In a bulletin posted at 2:33pm Mecca time Tuesday afternoon, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Hadithah, surrounded and under assault by US forces for the fifth day, reported that US fighter bombers had unleashed a violent barrage of four rockets that blew up and completely flattened the Abu al-Qasim Muhammad Mosque in the al-Haqlaniyah area to the ground. The building was totally destroyed.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that there were no worshippers nor any fighters in the mosque at the time of the American attack. US forces regularly claim that Resistance fighters take refuge in mosques and then attack the mosques on that pretext.

The American aircraft also blasted the al-Hadithah Historic Manuscript Library which contained original hand-written texts from the ‘Abbasi and Ottoman periods. The Librar was also razed to the ground and totally destroyed.

The correspondent reported that the attacks on the two buildings were part of an intense and relentless US air bombardment of the city of al-Hadithah that had been going on for about 10 minutes at the time of writing.

On Monday Quds Press reported that dust storms had brought a halt to the US offensive against al-Hadithah, producing a relative calm interrupted only by intermittent Resistance explosions on the outskirts of the city.

Resistance continues to hold most of al-Hadithah.

In a dispatch posted at 11:25pm Mecca time Tuesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that residents of al-Hadithah say that after five days of US onslaught, the Iraqi Resistance continues to control the city. US occupation forces, however remain encircling and besieging the city, according to al-Jazeera as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam.

The television station reported residents as saying that Resistance fighters have deployed everywhere throughout the city.

The city residents issued an appeal via al-Jazeera saying, “we here in al-Hadithah are raising a collective complaint from the notables and people of the city to the United Nations and the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ to get America to stop its strikes which are taking the lives mostly of civilian victims, and allow us to bury our dead.”

Muslim al-Hadithi told al-Jazeera that the raging battles have inflicted large-scale losses on the American occupation forces. He said that the reason there have been relatively few Resistance casualties is that they are expert at ruses and evasion, making it hard for the Americans to spot their positions ミ which, in any case, they change very fast.

The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ already denounced the US aggression on al-Hadithah which has the backing of the puppet regime in Baghdad. (See: “Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ strongly denounces US ‘genocidal’ campaign in al-Hadithah,” in Iraqi Resistance Report, Sunday, 7 August 2005.)

Hit.

Resistance mounts deadly barrages on US-Iraqi puppet base late Tuesday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance fighters mounted a fierce bombardment of the joint US-Iraqi puppet force headquarters that the occupation forces have set up in the Youth Center building in the al-‘Ummal section of downtown Hit, 250km west of Baghdad Tuesday afternoon.

A source in the Iraqi puppet forces told the Hit correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the bombardment of the headquarters came in two waves. At 5pm local time Tuesday afternoon Resistance forces fired six heavy 120mm mortar rounds into the headquarters.

Four of the shells blasted directly into the building, inflicting heavy damage on the structure and killing three US troops, one of them a sniper who had been posted on the roof. Two other US troops were wounded in the barrage.

The, the source continued, five minutes after the first wave and after the US forces in the camp had come together to rescue and recover the dead and wounded, three medium-range Katyusha rockets blasted into the headquarters. Two of them landed in the parade ground where US vehicles were parked, destroying three Humvees and killing one US soldier and wounding a second. The third rocket landed near the building’s front bate, killing two US troops and wounding four more.

In his dispatch posted at 6:50pm Mecca time Tuesday afternoon, the correspondent reported that at that moment, US forces were closing all access roads to the city of Hit and launching a campaign of raids and searches in neighborhoods in the northern part of the city. Swarms of US Apache helicopters had appeared overhead to search for the Resistance fighters who mounted the barrages on the camp.

Al-Qa’im.

Resistance martyrdom car bomber blasts into US camp near al-Karabilah killing a reported four US troops.

In a dispatch posted at 12:30pm Mecca time Tuesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives packed car into a US military camp at the western entrance to the village of al-Karabilah, east of the city of al-Qa’im, which lies on the Iraqi-Syrian border.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported residents of al-Karabilah as saying that a Resistance fighter drove a white booby-trapped car through the first line of cement barriers that American forces had erected around their camp. US troops opened fire intensely on the onrushing car, but the deadly vehicle carried on and blew up near the entrance to the camp. The blast destroyed some parts of the American-occupied camp and set fire to a US Humvee. Four American soldiers, two of them snipers, were killed in the attack and another six US troops wounded, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

After the attack, US troops forcefully imposed a cordon around the area to the east of al-Qa’im, Quds Press reported.

Al-Fallujah.

US launches unprecedented wave of raids and mass arrests in al-Fallujah.

In a dispatch posted at 2:45pm Mecca time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before US forces had launched a new offensive on al-Fallujah, some 50km west of Baghdad. US forces encircled whole residential neighborhoods and then mounted house-to-house raids and searches in homes of local residents.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Fallujah reported that the Americans, backed up by a small force of Iraqi puppet soldiers and with helicopters and fighter planes providing air cover, encircled nine residential neighborhoods of al-Fallujah shortly before he filed his report. The Americans then began unprecedented raids in the encircled areas, arresting large numbers of young men between the ages of 20 and 45.

A source in the Iraqi puppet army told Mafkarat al-Islam that the US occupation forces were carrying out this operation, which they dubbed “The Pincer” with the aim of cracking down on Resistance fighters in the city. The Resistance has become particularly active in al-Fallujah in recent weeks, the source explained.

Resistance mounts deadly attacks on US forces during Monday-Tuesday night.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in the al-Mu‘allimin neighborhood of al-Fallujah at 9pm Monday night. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast destroyed one Humvee and killed four US troops who were aboard it.

Resistance forces fired two mortar rounds at a concentration of US occupation troops near the area where the old bridge on the road to ar-Ramadi is located in the west of al-Fallujah. The mortar barrage wounded three US Marines, one of them seriously, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.

The US military acknowledged that four of its troops had been killed in the attack. For its part the Ansar as-Sunnah Resistance organization issued a communiqu Tuesday morning in which it took responsibility for the attack.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance sharpshooter kills US soldier in ar-Ramadi early Tuesday.

An Iraqi Resistance marksman shot and killed a US soldier in the al-Bu Farraj area north of ar-Ramadi at 7am local time Tuesday morning.

Residents of al-Bu Farraj village told Mafkarat al-Islam that the soldier was shot down as he was taking part in a patrol of four Humvees. The Resistance sharp shooter shot him as he was standing in one of the US vehicles. One shot struck the US soldier in the face and he toppled over dead.

Abu Ghurayb.

Three US troops reported killed in roadside bombing late Tuesday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US column in the Khan Darri area of western Abu Ghurayb, 30km west of Baghdad at 6pm local time Tuesday afternoon.

The Abu Ghurayb correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported residents of Zawbi‘ village in the western part of Khan Darri as saying that a bomb that was planted in the middle of a farm road blew up under a US armored vehicle that was part of a column of five armored vehicles and two Humvees.

Witnesses said that the blast set the armored vehicle on fire, killing three US troops and wounding three more American soldiers.

Baghdad.

Resistance car bomber blasts US convoy in Baghdad Tuesday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-packed car into a US convoy in Baghdad Tuesday afternoon, the American Associated Press (AP) reported. US sources admitted that one American soldier was killed in the attack and two other US troops wounded.

Resistance attacks leave 10 puppet policemen dead in Baghdad on Tuesday.

Iraqi Resistance fighters mounted three separate attacks on puppet police patrols in different parts of Baghdad at about 8am local time Tuesday morning, the US Associated Press (AP) reported. A total of nine puppet policemen died in the ambushes. The AP reported that a tenth Iraqi puppet policeman was killed later in the day.

A source in the Iraqi puppet police told the Qatari News Agency (Qana) that two officers ミ one captain and one first lieutenant ミ in the puppet police were killed on al-Ghadir Street in the east of Baghdad. The two were traveling in an unmarked car belonging to the puppet “interior ministry” when Resistance fighters opened fire on them.

Iraqi Resistance fighters wiped out four members of the “interior ministry shock police,” otherwise known as the “Wolf Brigade,” in an attack in the Baghdad al-Jadidah section in the south of the occupied Iraqi capital.

Qana reported that following intensive sand storms, joint units of the puppet so-called “security protection forces” resumed raids on houses and shops in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities on Tuesday as life returned to “normal” following the storms.

US, puppet forces stay indoors for fear of Resistance attacks under cover of dust storms sweeping the capital.

The occupied Iraqi capital Baghdad and other Iraqi cities have been swept by powerful sand and dust storms that have reduced visibility to under three meters. Sand storms are common in summer and in addition to reducing visibility and afflicting people with respiratory problems, they produce traffic accidents and otherwise interfere with normal activity.

According to Quds Press, sources in the Iraqi weather service on Monday expected the dust storms to continue for another 48 hours but with reduced intensity after midday Monday.

The sources said that Iraq had been affected by a high-pressure air system coming from the east of the Mediterranean with moderate winds and relatively cooler air pressures. The difference between those temperatures and the heat prevailing over Iraq led to dust storms in several parts of the country. Temperatures were likely to remain elevated, with the daytime high around 43 degrees Celsius and the low between 26 and 27.

Because of the dust storms puppet government offices and departments were closed on Monday as employees were unable to get to work. Quds Press reported that in the streets of Baghdad neither the Iraqi puppet police nor US troops showed any particular activity because the Resistance regularly makes use of dust and sand storms to attack their incapacitated enemy whenever he exposes himself by going out on patrols in such weather.

US helicopters and fighter planes also appeared to have been grounded, Quds Press reported, as none took to the skies over the city. A source in Iraqi air traffic control told Quds Press that there was no movement at Saddam International Airport because of the dust storms that had affected large parts of the country and made it impossible to resume flights until the storms settled down.

A medical source told Quds Press that a number of Iraqis had died as a result of asthma attacks brought on by the storms. The source said that a number of such cases were brought in to hospitals in Baghdad and that it was indeed the weather that brought about their deaths not only by suffocating them but by obstructing visibility and making it difficult for them to obtain treatment.

Salah ad-Din Province.

Samarra’.

Two US troops reported killed in roadside bombing in Samarra’ Tuesday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol on the main road in the at-Ta’mim neighborhood of western Samarra’ at 3pm local time Tuesday afternoon.

The Samarra’ correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that a bomb that was planted under a mound of garbage by the side of the road blew up as a US foot patrol accompanied by four Humvees passed by.

The blast killed two US troops and wounded four more, one of them seriously.

Four US troops reported killed in double bombing near al-Ishaqi early Tuesday.

Two Iraqi Resistance bombs exploded by a US armored column near al-Ishaqi, south of Samarra’, on the main road leading from Baghdad to the north at 8:30am local time Tuesday morning.

Residents of al-Ishaqi told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the city that two bombs that were planted by the side of the main road north of al-Ishaqi blew up almost at the same time while a column of six US armored vehicles and three Humvees was passing.

The blasts set one Humvee on fire and disabled an armored vehicle, killing four US troops and wounding four more.

Tikrit.

Resistance blasts US intelligence headquarters near Tikrit early Tuesday.

Iraqi Resistance forces fired four medium-range Grad rockets into the headquarters of US intelligence in one of the presidential palaces in al-‘Awjah in the Tikrit area at 8am local time Tuesday morning.

Residents of al-‘Awjah told Mafkarat al-Islam that four violent blasts shook the US intelligence headquarters as a result of the barrage. Smoke rose into the sky after the attack and US helicopters flew in and around nearby areas in large numbers.

Babil Province.

Al-Latifiyah.

Resistance bomb blasts supply convoy truck, killing driver late Tuesday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US supply convoy hauling provisions and equipment to US bases on the highway in the area of al-Latifiyah, south of Baghdad at 11am local time Tuesday morning.

Residents of al-Latifiyah told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that a bomb that had been planted by the side of the highway blew up as the convoy of 11 loaded trucks and four Humvees passed by.

The blast set one of the trucks on fire, killing the driver, a collaborator working for the US forces.

Ninwa Province.

Mosul.

Resistance roadside bomb blasts US vehicle at midnight Tuesday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol on the road leading to Kirkuk near the al-Wahdah neighborhood of Mosul at 12 midnight Monday-Tuesday.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported residents of al-Wahdah as saying that a bomb blew up as a US patrol made up of several Humvees passed by. The explosion destroyed one of the vehicles, killing and wounding the members of its five-man American crew.

At-Ta’mim Province.

Al-Hawijah.

Resistance fighters ambush joint US-Iraqi puppet patrol at noon on Tuesday.

Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a joint US-Iraqi puppet patrol in the al-Hawijah area, southwest of Kirkuk in northern Iraq at 12 noon local time Tuesday.

Residents of the al-Lahib village west of al-Hawijah told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons, including RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades and BKC machine guns, surprised the joint patrol, unleashing a hail of bullets and rockets on them.

The attack set two vehicles belonging to the Iraqi puppet forces and one US Humvee ablaze. Five Iraqi puppet troops were killed and three more wounded. Two US soldiers also died in the attack and one other was wounded, the witnesses reported, adding that one Iraqi Resistance fighter was martyred as well. After the ambush, Resistance fighters withdrew from the area.
