Four killed when blast destroys Gaza City weapons laboratory

At least four people were killed and 27 more were wounded when an explosion destroyed a weapons laboratory in the home of a senior Hamas figure after nightfall Monday in Gaza City, residents and hospital officials said.
Ten of the wounded people were listed in moderate condition. One of the dead was a woman.
The house belonged to Nidal Farhat, a senior member of Hamas' military wing.

"The Israeli army has no connection with this incident," an Israel Defense Forces spokeswoman said.
The IDF said blast was likely a "work accident" caused when Hamas operatives were preparing Qassam rockets in the house in the city's Saja'iyeh neighborhood.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia said Monday night that the blast was not caused by Israel.
Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas called the explosion "regrettable" and said "security is investigating the cause."
The Palestinian Interior Ministry confirmed an explosion had taken place inside the house. Palestinian security officials said they had opened an investigation which would also examine whether explosives were stored in the building and detonated prematurely.
Israel has largely ceased assassinations of Palestinian militants since declaring a cease-fire along with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas last February.
