Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Tuesday, 2 August 2005. Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice. http://www.freearabvoice.org
Tuesday, 2 August 2005.
Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Hadithah.
US forces lock down al-Hadithah Tuesday morning after night of violent fighting.
US forces closed all entrances and exits, sealing off the western Iraqi city of al-Hadithah from the outside world on Tuesday morning. The American lockdown followed a fierce upsurge in Iraqi Resistance attacks, according to Quds Press.
A source in the al-Hadithah puppet police told Quds Press that during Monday-Tuesday night, Resistance fighters battled US occupation forces at the eastern entrance to the city and that several Resistance bombs exploded by US forces as they advanced on al-Hadithah. (See detailed stories from Mafkarat al-Islam below.) The source told Quds Press that a total of four US military vehicles were destroyed in the night-time fighting.
The puppet police source told Quds Press that another detachment of Resistance fighters battled American troops on the southern side of the city, firing mortars shoulder-launched rockets in large numbers, setting two American vehicles on fire.
US forces were seen moving in to encircle the whole city on Tuesday as American snipers deployed on rooftops near the city’s entrances and exits, ready to shoot anyone who tries to come or go.
Resistance fighters ambush, kill 15 US Marines on banks of the Euphrates River in Barwanah area Monday night.
Iraqi Resistance forces ambushed, captured, and killed 13 US Marines along the banks of the Euphrates River in the area of Barwanah west of al-Hadithah on Monday night.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Barwanah reported that a group of US Marines had set a trap for Iraqi Resistance fighters in the reeds and among the palm groves along the banks of the Euphrates River. But, rather than fall into the trap, Iraqi Resistance fighters suddenly pounced on the Marines, sparking a short fire-fight in the course of which two Humvees were completely burned, two Marines were killed, and 13 Marines were captured.
The Resistance fighters were able to withdraw quickly from the battle zone, but US occupation forces attacked the area with amphibious boats, armored vehicles, and helicopters less than 15 minutes later, igniting another battle in which four of the Resistance fighters were martyred. This prompted the Resistance fighters to shoot all the 13 captive Marines, dump their bodies off a bridge, and then withdraw with the bodies of their four martyred brothers to inside the city. The US forces were unable to capture them.
A major in the Iraqi puppet army confirmed that the attack took place, but told Mafkarat al-Islam confirmed the report, and admitted that it had come as a total surprise to the Americans. He claimed, however, that six Iraqi Resistance fighters had died in the course of the operation, among them fighters from other Arab countries.
A communiqu issued by the Resistance said that only four Resistance fighters had been martyred: one of them a Saudi, the other three Iraqis.
Besides that attack, the correspondent reported that Iraqi Resistance forces destroyed a number of US patrol boats and disabled four vehicles in addition to killing a number of US troops during combat operations.
Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that US occupation forces immediately closed the city and launched a campaign of raids and searches ミ a campaign that witnesses described as “hysterical” and “mad” ミ in the course of which 11 elderly men, one of them aged 60, were arrested.
The correspondent wrote that the reason why only relatively old people were captured in the American sweep was that the Resistance had warned the young men of the area two days earlier that they must leave because of the likelihood that the Resistance attacks would elicit such a response.
Resistance mounts repeated attacks on US troops trying to break into al-Hadithah Monday-Tuesday night.
In a dispatch posted at 11:55am Mecca time Tuesday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Iraqi Resistance fighters mounted several attacks on US occupation forces in the city of Hadithah in western Iraq on Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
The Hadhithah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local witnesses as saying that an Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US column as it tried to come in the city’s eastern entrance at midnight. The blast set one American armored vehicle ablaze, killing or wounding its crew.
Iraqi Resistance forces then fired nine 82mm mortar rounds into the same column, forcing it to retreat outside the city.
Fierce clashes took place in the south and north of al-Hadithah between Resistance forces and US troops when Resistance fighters armed with light and medium weapons, including BKC machine guns, RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades, C5K rockets, and 60mm mortars, attacked a number of US columns that were trying to get into the city. The fighting left several American military vehicles on fire, killing or wounding several US troops.
Al-Khalidiyah.
Resistance bomb destroys US tank early Tuesday morning.
A high-explosive Iraqi Resistance bomb blew up by a US tank column on the main road near the as-Siddiqiyah Bridge east of al-Khalidiyah (which is near ar-Ramadi) at about 7am Tuesday morning local time.
Residents of as-Siddiqiyah told the al-Khalidiyah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that a bomb that was planted by the side of the main road near the bridge exploded by a column of six US tanks and two Humvees. One tank was totally destroyed, killing four US troops and wounding one more.
For its part, Quds Press quoted a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that the blast killed one American soldier and wounded three more.
After the attack, US forces encircled the entire area, preventing local people and journalists from approaching the scene. American forces carried out numerous raids and searches in the area west of ar-Ramadi looking for Resistance fighters. Local witnesses told Quds Press that although the Americans claimed to have released a number of prisoners from al-Anbar province, their raids and searches had netted them even more new Iraqi captives in their area.
Baghdad.
Resistance martyrdom car bomber blasts US column in eastern Baghdad.
In a dispatch posted at 3:25pm Mecca time Tuesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US patrol in the al-Bab ash-Sharqi area of eastern Baghdad.
Shopkeepers in the area told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that a Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into the midst of a US patrol, destroying two Humvees and killing or wounding seven American soldiers. The witnesses said that the blast also wounded four civilians who happened to be in the area at the time of the attack.
Two US troops reported killed in Tuesday morning bombing in ad-Durah.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by an American patrol in the ‘Arab Jabbur area in the south of the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah at 11am local time Tuesday morning.
Residents of ad-Durah told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that a bomb that was planted by the side of the road leading to ‘Arab Jabbur blew up as a patrol of several Humvees was passing by. The blast destroyed one Humvee, killing two US soldiers and wounding three others.
US reporter for Army times wounded in attack.
The US military admitted that a journalist working for the American army was wounded in an Iraqi Resistance attack on Monday. The American Associated Press (AP) reported a US military spokesman, Captain Duane Limpert, as saying that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into the Americans near the Syrian-Iraqi border at 7pm Monday evening, wounding the reporter.
The Army Times newspaper for which the reporter works, however, named the injured correspondent as Matthew Cox and said that he received shrapnel wounds in a Resistance martyrdom car bomb attack near Rawah on Tuesday night rather than Monday night as the AP reported.
Babil Province.
Al-Mahmudiyah.

The witnesses reported that the blast destroyed a large part of the camp, setting two American vehicles ablaze and killing or wounding about eight US troops. Four Iraqi puppet troops were killed in the attack.

At the end of the clash, one pickup belonging to Iraqi puppet forces was on fire and an American Humvee was disabled. One US soldier was killed and four others wounded. Six Iraqi puppet troops were killed in the engagement.
The witnesses said that three Iraqi Resistance fighters were wounded during the attack but were able to withdraw from the area with the rest of their comrades.
Tikrit.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US fuel truck convoy on its way to US bases along the road between Tikrit and Bayji to the north at about 9am local time Tuesday morning.
Residents of the al-‘Ilm district, north of Tikrit, told Mafkarat al-Islam that a bomb that was planted by the side of the main road blew up as a column of fuel tankers passed by on their way to US bases. The blast set one of the tank trucks ablaze, injuring the two drivers who were collaborators working for the Americans.
Ninwa Province.

The witnesses reported that the bomb set one US Humvee on fire and destroyed one Ural. One American soldier and three Iraqi puppet troops were killed in the attack and one American and two Iraqi puppet troops were wounded.

Witnesses told the correspondent that a group of Italian soldiers in an-Nasiriyah were on a joint patrol with Iraqi puppet army troops when one of the Italians was felled by a bullet. The Italian died instantly from the lethal bullet wound.
Iraqi puppet troops immediately closed off the area, preventing all cars and pedestrians from leaving the area and searching all buildings and residential and commercial structures. The dragnet yielded nothing, however.
Meanwhile, the Italian forces evacuated the body of the dead soldier about 45 minutes after he was killed, according to the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent’s report from the scene.
Maysan Province.
Maysan.
Thousands of Iraqis demonstrated in the southern Iraqi city of Maysan on Tuesday against the decree of the puppet so-called “Iraqi interior minister” Jabr Sulagh to arrest Shaykh Mahmud al-Hasani as-Sarkhi on the pretext that he was involved in an attack on 11 February 2004 that targeted Iraqi puppet police.
The demonstrators demanded that the case be appealed to the puppet so-called “prime minister’s council” for investigation and to punish the official who issued the arrest warrant for Shaykh as-Sarkhi. The protestors also demanded an apology from the puppet “interior ministry” and other measures including immunity from prosecution for religious leaders.
