Thursday, 23 June 2005.
Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Fallujah.
Resistance bombards US base near al-Fallujah at noon Thursday.
Iraqi Resistance forces fired a barrage of Grad rockets into the US base west of al-Fallujah at 12 noon Thursday. An Iraqi contractor collaborating with the Americans who was on the base at the time told Mafkarat al-Islam that seven US troops were killed in the bombardment and others wounded when one Grad missile blasted into an American rest center on the base.
After the attack US helicopters transported the dead and wounded to the city of ar-Ramadi where there is a US military hospital.
Resistance barrage leaves thee US troops dead in al-Fallujah Thursday morning.
Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded a US check point south of al-Fallujah at 11:30am Thursday morning local time with four mortar rounds.
A source in the puppet so-called “security protection force” told the al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the attack killed three US troops and wounded nine more.
After the bombardment, two US helicopters flew over the ash-Shuhada’ and al-‘Askari neighborhoods of al-Fallujah, looking for the Resistance attackers but found nothing.
Resistance ambushes US patrol in southern al-Fallujah Thursday morning, sparking firefight.
In a bulletin posted at 10:20am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier fighting erupted between the Iraqi Resistance and US occupation forces backed up by Iraqi puppet troops in the south of al-Fallujah.
Witnesses told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Fallujah that more than 20 Resistance fighters armed with RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades attacked a US column that was cruising the streets of the south of the city.
At the time of writing the attack had destroyed two US vehicles, killing a number of US troops.
American forces then surrounded the entire area with dozens of soldiers and prevented anyone from approaching.
In a dispatch posted at 5:55am GMT, Quds Press reported a source in the al-Fallujah puppet police as saying that a force of more than 30 Resistance fighters equipped with light and medium weapons had attacked a US patrol in the al-Jawlan neighborhood in the south of al-Fallujah, destroying one American military vehicle and wounding several soldiers aboard it.
The source said that a firefight lasting about 15 minutes ensued, after which the Resistance fighters withdrew leaving some light arms behind.
Witnesses told Quds Press that the Resistance fighters disabled one US military vehicle, which caught fire. They said that two of the men were killed and four others wounded.
Al-Qa’im.
Iraqi sharpshooter kills US soldier in al-Qa’im.
In a bulletin posted at 11:45am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short time earlier an Iraqi Resistance marksman had shot and killed one American soldier in the middle of al-Qa’im.
Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans were barricaded in a narrow alley that overlooks the main street in al-Qa’im and suddenly one of them fell, struck squarely in the head by a deadly bullet. Witnesses said no sound of the shot was heard nor was it clear from what direction the shot came.
US forces immediately closed off the area and allowed no one out of their houses unless they had been searched. The Americans also searched rooftops of nearby buildings but found no
thing.
Ar-Ramadi.
Resistance bomb kills four US troops Thursday morning in ar-Ramadi.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US patrol in ar-Ramadi Thursday morning. Lieutenant Colonel Wajih Talib, a spokesman for the Iraqi puppet army, admitted that four US troops were killed in the bomb attack which took place in the at-Ta’mim neighborhood in the west of ar-Ramadi.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that the four American troops were blown out of their armored vehicle by the explosion. They were dead at that point.
Afterwards, US forces encircled the whole area and imposed a curfew that lasted for two hours.
Baghdad.
Resistance martyrdom car bomber blasts US military column on Airport Road Thursday morning.
An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a US military column on Airport Road in Baghdad. A source in the Iraqi puppet police told Mafkarat al-Islam that the attack took place on the road to Saddam International Airport at 9am Thursday morning. The blast destroyed one American armored Humvee and disabled a second. Six US troops were killed and three more wounded in the bombing.
After the attack, US forces encircled the entire area and shut down traffic in both directions on Airport road as two helicopters were called in to evacuate dead and wounded Americans from the scene.
Three Iraqi Resistance car bombs target puppet police Thursday morning, following similar attacks Wednesday night also aimed at puppet police targets.
Three Iraqi Resistance car bombs exploded in the Baghdad district of al-Karradah nearly simultaneously on Thursday morning targeting the Iraqi puppet police and puppet troops. Quds Press reported that at precisely 7am Thursday morning a powerful blast shook al-Karradah Street when a car bomb that was parked near the Hajji Mahdi bathhouse blew up by an Iraqi puppet patrol, killing or wounding several puppet policemen. Witnesses told Quds Press that three puppet policemen were killed in the blast and four more wounded.
At about the same time, another explosives-laden car that had been parked near the Shi‘i place of worship Husayniyat al-Bu Jum‘ah blew up by another Iraqi puppet police patrol. Witnesses told Quds Press that the explosion killed six puppet policemen, but the puppet police officially said that the bomb only inflicted “material damage on the Shi‘i place of worship.”
After the second blast American occupation forces and their Iraqi stooges threw up a security cordon around the scene of the blast. Minutes later an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-packed car into the security ring and blew up. Sources told Quds Press that the total number of Iraqis wounded in the three blasts was around 50.
At about the same time as the three car bombs were going off in al-Karradah, Iraqi Resistance forces fired several mortar shells into the al-Jadiriyah district of Baghdad, puppet police sources told Quds Press, claiming that the barrage inflicted no Iraqi casualties.
The three Thursday morning bombings followed just hours after a spate of three Wednesday night bombings that targeted Iraqi puppet police as well. Contrary to reports Wednesday night carried by the American Associated Press (AP) which suggested that the bombs struck popular public places, Quds Press reported Thursday that the Wednesday night bombs struck an area where Iraqi puppet police patrols are marshaled, a restaurant frequented by puppet police, and an Iraqi puppet police patrol that was setting up a checkpoint in the area.
Quds Press reported official sources as saying that the three Wednesday night blasts left 18 Iraqis dead and others wounded ミ most of the casualties being puppet security personnel.
The new wave of bombings followed extensive operations by the US occupation forces and their Iraqi stooges aimed at taking control of the security situation in the country and in the occupied capital in particular. The latest bombings demonstrate that the occupation operations nicknamed “lightning,” “spear,” and “dagger” all failed to achieve that aim.
(See “Three mysterious car bombs explode almost simultaneously at dusk in Baghdad Wednesday” in Iraqi Resistance Report for Wednesday, 22 June 2005, where the distorted American Associated Press version of the bombings Wednesday made the attacks seem inexplicable.)
Resistance fighters escape Abu Ghurayb prison camp midday Thursday.
In a bulletin posted at 3:50pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before five Iraqi Resistance fighters managed to escape from the notorious Abu Ghurayb prison camp west of Baghdad.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the area reported that US occupation forces at the time of writing were carrying out an extraordinary and hysterical search throughout the area looking for the five escaped Resistance fighters who apparently escaped through the sewer system to the outside.
The news of the escape was confirmed by Captain Sawwadi Khayyun of the Abu Ghurayb puppet police, who told the correspondent “five of the prisoners were able to escape the Abu Ghurayb prison at noon today,” as US soldiers encircled the area trying to recapture the fugitive fighters.
Khayyun told the correspondent that the red prison clothing of the five men was found thrown in a field near the prison, which was the last trace of the men.
NATO commitment to support of US occupation of Iraq is indefinitely “long term.”
The Secretary General of the American-run NATO pact, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer told a meeting of that organization on Wednesday that the organization’s role in training and supplying troops and police for the puppet regime installed by Washington in occupied Baghdad would not be a commitment “for six months or a year” but for a long time to come.
The Spanish news agency EFE, monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Scheffer spoke at the end of an international conference on Iraq convened by America’s satellite countries in Brussels, Belgium. Scheffer insisted on the need for NATO to take part in the occupation, or as he called it “the democratization process.”
Asked how long the NATO training and equipping of Iraqi puppet forces would last ミ an operation in which the 26 NATO satellite states are involved ミ Scheffer replied only that it would go on as long as the puppet regime in occupied Baghdad “requested” such “aid.”
Scheffer said that during the summer NATO would train 1,000 puppet police officers at a center in the suburbs of Baghdad in addition to 500 troops outside of Iraq. Scheffer said that he had been proposing to countries of the European Union and other countries to help train the puppet forces in the facility near Baghdad because it would be “wasteful” if every country were to set up training camps in other countries.
Several European satellites of the US, such as France and Germany, have been afraid to train puppet troops inside Iraq because any commitment of forces to the occupation of Iraq is massively unpopular in those countries. They have agreed, however, to the lower-profile form of assistance to the occupation by undertaking to train the puppet forces in neighboring countries or in Europe.
Salah ad-Din Province.
Bayji.
Puppet police arrest 51 persons in raid on village near Bayji.
Iraqi puppet police arrested 51 people in a village near the city of Bayji on the pretext that they were behind Iraqi Resistance attacks on US and Iraqi puppet forces in the area, a puppet police source told Quds Press on Thursday.
The source said that the puppet police carried out raids on homes in the village of as-Salam, arresting 51 local people and confiscating weapons that were in their possession.
Quds Press reported that the arrests followed an attack two days earlier on a checkpoint in Bayji where two puppet policemen were killed.
Ninwa Province.
Mosul.
In a dispatch posted at 10:30am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-packed car into a US patrol west of Mosul.
A source in the Iraqi puppet military told Mafkarat al-Islam that an Iraqi Resistance fighter drove a black Mercedes into the US patrol, compeletely destroying two US armored vehicles and killing eight American troops and wounding others.
The correspondent reported that the stench coming from the dead American troops was so bad that the US soldiers covered their mouths and noses to enable themselves to load up and haul away the bodies. Huge cranes picked up the wrecked vehicles and loaded them on massive trucks that took them to the US al-Ghazlani base where the Americans maintain a vehicle “graveyard.”
The Resistance organization Base Qa‘idah of Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers announced its responsibility for the attack in a communiqu, a copy of which was obtained by the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam.
Al-Muthanna Province.
As-Samawah.
Resistance bomb kills two Japanese occupation soldiers in as-Samawah.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a patrol of Japanese occupation troops north of as-Samawah in southern Iraq on Thursday.
Witnesses told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the city that the Japanese patrol was heading from the middle of town to the north on the first such patrol for weeks. The Japanese forces have proven very reluctant to venture out of their base and do so only on rare occasions.
The bomb destroyed the Jeep in which the Japanese occupation troops were riding and killed two Japanese soldiers and wounded one more.
The correspondent reported a source in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that the Japanese forces requested aid from the American and Iraqi puppet forces after the attack and they rushed to encircle the area and carry out searches in the course of which they found nothing.
As-Samawah Radio, a propaganda station beamed at the local population and run by the occupation forces claimed that “Wahhabi terrorists” and not the “peaceful local population” were responsible for the bomb attack.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported, in its dispatch posted at 3:12pm Mecca time Thursday afternoon, that the Japanese Defense Ministry acknowledged the attack but made no mention of losses or casualties.
Diyala Province.
Al-Mundhiriyah.
Resistance martyrdom car bomber kills four Marines near Iranian border.
An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-packed car into a column of several US military Humvees in the border complex of al-Mundhiriyah on the Iraqi border with Iraqn at about 2pm local time Thursday afternoon.
A source in the Iraqi puppet “border guards” told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance car bomber blasted into the American Marine border patrol, destroying a Humvee and killing four Marines.
Karbala’ Province.
Karbala’.
Resistance bomb kills five US Marines in Karbala’ midday Thursday.
An Iraqi Resistance land mine exploded by a US patrol in the al-Husayn neighborhood in the north of Karbala’ at 1:30pm Thursday afternoon local time.
Witnesses and a source in the Iraqi puppet army told Mafkarat al-Islam that five US Marines were killed when the land mine, which had been planted under a pile of rubbish, exploded. A sixth American soldier was wounded in the blast, which occurred after their patrol passed close to the rubbish heap.
After the explosion, US forces completely encircled the area, imposed a curfew, and then began raiding homes. In the end, they arrested a number of Sunni residents, claiming that they had been behind the attack.
Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.
Iraqi Resistance bombards Camp Bucca Thursday morning.
In a bulletin posted at 10:45am Mecca time Thursday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that at the time of writing Iraqi Resistance forces were bombarding the Anglo-American prison camp known as Camp Bucca near al-Basrah in southern Iraq.
Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that mortar rounds were blasting into the prison camp in quick succession and dense smoke could be seen rising over the facility as American and British helicopters flew about the area searching for the source of the barrage. Witnesses reported that fires were burning extensively within the prison camp.
The correspondent was unable to obtain information on the extent of damage and casualties that have resulted from the bombardment.
Sunni Shaykh tortured, killed near al-Basrah Wednesday.
Shaykh Jasim as-Sarih, a Sunni leader of the al-‘Abudah tribe in the az-Zubayr area of al-Basrah, was tortured and then shot dead at about 5:30pm Wednesday afternoon 22 June 2006.
The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars issued a statement noting that Shaykh Jasim was a long-time resident of az-Zubayr who was known throughout al-Basrah and particularly in the Suq Sawwadi area where he lived.
The Board quoted a puppet police spokesman as saying that the flesh of the Shaykh’s neck was extremely badly torn as if a knife used to try to butcher him had been too dull.
The Board statement noted that this was but the latest in a series of sectarian attacks aimed at terrorizing the local Sunni population into leaving the area.
Assistant puppet “director of police intelligence” wounded in Resistance attack.
Iraqi Resistance forces shot and wounded Mustafa Mazlum ‘Abbas, the puppet “Assistant Director of Police Intelligence” as he emerged from the offices of the puppet police dirctorate in the al-Khalij al-‘Arabi neighborhood of west al-Basrah on Wednesday night.
A spokesman for the puppet police was quoted by Mafkarat al-Islam as saying Thursday morning that the attempt on ‘Abbas’s life left him wounded in the legs. It was the first such assassination attempt since the puppet “government” of Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari was installed under US auspices in April.
The puppet “police directorate of intelligence” is considered to play a major role in the sectarian campaign of arrest, torture, and assassination of Sunni citizens that has become a hallmark of the puppet regime that took over the country in April. Together with the “intelligence directorate” the sectarian campaign is also run by the puppet “directorate of interior affairs” headquartered in the same building as the “intelligence directorate” in al-Basrah.
