Al-Anbar Province.

As-Saqlawiyah.

Resistance martyrdom fighter uses ruse to attract US troops to bomb-laden car, then blows up, killing 20 Americans.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blew up an explosives-laden white Daewoo car amidst a US foot patrol in the as-Saqlawiyah area north of al-Fallujah at 4am local time Tuesday morning.

A witness told the al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the fighter driving the car pulled up close to the American patrol and suddenly stopped. He then called to the Americans asking them to come over to help him with his car.

The witness said the Resistance fighter did not have the appearance of a militant nor was he armed, but when the American troops gathered around him he blew himself and his car up, killing 20 US troops. Seven of the dead Americans had gathered very close to his car and their bodies were completely charred after the blast, the witness said.

Ar-Rutbah.

Resistance shoots down US Apache helicopter near Jordan border midday Monday.

In a bulletin posted at 12noon Mecca time Tuesday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, Iraqi Resistance forces in the city of ar-Rutbah, near the border with Jordan had shot down a US Apache helicopter.

Residents of the area who witnessed the downing told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance fired a rocket that scored a direct hit on the rear part of the helicopter.

Afterward, American troops headed to the area where the wreckage of the aircraft lay burning on the ground in a farm field. The correspondent reported that Iraqi fire fighters also went to the crash site because of the fire that the crash had ignited. The correspondent had no information on the fate of the helicopter crew, since US forces were still keeping the whole area sealed off.

Al-Qa’im.

Iraqi Resistance car bomb kills nine US troops in al-Qa’im one day after end of major battle.

In a dispatch posted at 11:27am Mecca time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-packed car into a US checkpoint on the road linking al-Qa’im with the nearby town of al-‘Ubaydi. Lieutenant Karim al-Mi‘wari of the puppet Iraqi border guards told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast killed nine American troops and wounded five more.

The source said that the Americans called in two Apache helicopters to evacuate their dead and wounded.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that American forces arrested one photographer who tried to take pictures of the bodies of the dead and wounded Americans strewn about the ground. The US troops smashed his camera. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the arrested photographer worked for the American Associated Press.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance car bomb leaves four American troops dead in ar-Ramadi early Tuesday.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military patrol in ar-Ramadi, west of Baghdad, at 8am local time Tuesday morning. Witnesses told the ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam that an Opel that was parked on a dirt road in the al-Bu Faraj area blew up as the American patrol was passing, destroying one Humvee and killing at least four American soldiers. Afterwards, US troops deployed and sealed off the area. They raided and searched houses and nearby farms, and arrested four civilians.

Baghdad.

US troops attack home of Iraqi lawyer representing President Saddam Hussein, steal all papers related to the case, in addition to money, valuables.

The legal defense team for Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Monday accused US forces of raiding the home of the Iraqi lawyer Khalil ad-Dulaymi, President Saddam Hussein’s legal representative, and of stealing legal documents and money.

The Lebanese newspaper as-Safir reported on Tuesday, 17 May 2005 that the French attorney Andre Chami issued a statement in Amman, Jordan, saying that US forces had raided ad-Dulaymi’s home in a suburb of Baghdad two days before. “The American forces carried out a search in the course of their attack and confiscated all the documents related to the Defense Committee” for Saddam Hussein, the newspaper quoted Chami as saying.

The statement said that, the Americans also “took valuables, in particular jewelry, telephones, and about US$40,000.”

As-Safir reported that the legal defense team for President Saddam Hussein, which the Iraqi President and his daughters selected, consists of 24 attorneys, including the former French Minister of Defense Roland Dumas, and the Former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark.

Resistance bombards Abu Ghurayb prison late Tuesday afternoon.

In a bulletin posted at 6:45pm Mecca time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iraqi Resistance a short while before had begun bombarding the notorious American prison camp at Abu Ghurayb, 30km west of Baghdad. At the time of reporting the Resistance had fired more than seven mortar rounds into the US prison, and the shelling was still underway.

The correspondent reported that US helicopters were at the time of writing in the air over the American facility, trying to pinpoint the source of the incoming fire, but so far they had failed to do so.

Resistance bomb kills three US troops near Abu Ghurayb midday Tuesday.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military patrol in the village of a-Bu Munaysir, east of Abu Ghurayb at 1pm local time Tuesday. Owners of gardens in the village who witnessed the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that the bomb went off as the US troops were passing, destroying one Humvee and killing three US soldiers and wounding two more.

Resistance car bomb kills seven US troops in Baghdad early Tuesday.

An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military column in Baghdad at 7am Tuesday morning local time. The correspondent for Makfarat al-Islam in Baghdad reported sources in the Iraqi puppet police as saying that as the US column was passing the al-‘Adl intersection on the highway from Baghdad to the west, an explosives-laden car that was parked by the side of the road blew up.

The blast destroyed two Humvees and killed seven US troops and wounded two more. Afterwards, US forces encircled the area closing the highway to traffic and preventing anyone from approaching. Other American troops hauled away the wrecked vehicles and the remains of the dead and wounded to their bases.

Puppet forces wage massive sectarian campaign of raids, torture, murder targeted at Sunni personalities in conformity with US “divide and rule” strategy of pitting Iraqis against each other.

The puppet so-called Wolf Brigade of the puppet “Iraqi national Guard” has over the past two days carried out repressive campaigns of raids, arrests, torture and murder that targeted more than 100 persons according to a conservative estimate. The attacks were carried out in various parts of the country, but especially in Baghdad, according to a statement issued early Tuesday by the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars, the highest Sunni religious authority in occupied Iraq, a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam.

The statement referred to the murder of Sunni Shaykh Hamid Mukhlif ad-Dulaymi during a raid on his mosque and of the arrest of Shaykh Hasan Hadi an-Nu‘aymi, member of the Consultative Council of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’, along with several worshippers in his mosque at the time of their raid. The Board noted that some of them were later tortured and then murdered. Late on Sunday, 15 May, the bodies of some of those individuals were found on the outskirts of Baghdad near the al-Firdaws Mosque in the Ur neighborhood. Relatives of the victims said that they had been abducted by members of the Wolf Brigade of the Iraqi puppet regime’s “national guard.”

The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ published the names of eight of the victims: Talal Nayif ‘Abd al-Karim al-‘Anazi, imam of the al-Mustafa Mosque in Baghdad’s ash-Sha‘b neighborhood; Arkan Ghazi Jassam, Haytham Ghazi Jassam, ‘Amir Ghazi Jassam, Quraysh ‘Abd al-Jabbar ﾐ brother of Shaykh ‘Abd as-Sattar al-Jabbar, member of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ arrested seven months ago; ‘Abd as-Satar Rahumi al-Ma‘muri; Muhammad Jadu‘, and a man named Waddah (whose full name was not known).

Two men were found barely alive among the corpses of the other victims: Thamir Ahmad Fayyad and Lu’ayy ‘Abd al-Jalil. Both were taken to the Medical City Hospital (Mustashfa Madinat at-Tibb) but members of the puppet “national guards” caught up with one of them and he was taken out of the hospital and no more is known of him. The puppet guards failed to find the other man.

In an earlier statement published by the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ on Monday, 16 May, the Board expressed concern over the fate of Shaykh Hasan an-Nu‘aymi and Shaykh ‘Abd al-Karim ‘Abd ar-Razzaq who was arrested several days ago. Concern has risen after a number of prisoners just released from the overcrowded occupation prison camps reported that the two religious leaders had been subjected to intensive torture likely to cause death.

The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ demanded the immediate release of the prisoners.

Later on Tuesday Mafkarat al-Islam monitored a Reuters report that two Shi‘i religious leaders had been killed in Baghdad. According to the report, armed men in Baghdad shot Muwaffaq Mansur to death as he was driving his car in the occupied Iraqi capital. Mansur was the imam of a small mosque in western Baghdad’s al-Jihad neighborhood.

Shi ‘ religious leader Mani‘ Hasan, a member of the Shi‘i “Islamic Party” was shot to death in front of his house, Reuters reported Tuesday.

A campaign of extremely brutal sectarian violence being perpetrated by the puppet forces of the “national guards,” puppet police, and other security services of the regime has been rapidly escalating since the installation of the new American-puppet “prime minister” Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari who is personally known for his intense sectarianism. The bloody campaign conforms to the strategy of dividing Iraq along sectarian and ethnic lines, long advocated by imperialist strategists in Washington and London. (For a few examples of such thinking, see the article “The Three-State Solution” by Leslie Gelb, prominent Washington “think-tank” member, in The New York Times of 25 November 2003; the book The Future of Iraq, by the British writers Liam Anderson and Gareth Stansfield; and the blog article by Lawrence Velvel, Dean of the Massachusetts School of Law dated 27 September 2004.)

Shaykh Hasan an-Nu‘aymi’s body identified among the dead.

In a dispatch posted at 3:10pm Mecca time Tuesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ had announced shortly before that “just two days after the arrest by the so-called Shock Forces of the puppet police of Shaykh Hasan an-Nu‘aymi, member of the Consultative Council of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ and imam and preacher of the ash-Shahid Yusuf Mosque in the Madinat ash-Sha‘b neighborhood of Baghdad, the body of the Shaykh was identified among the corpses in the Medical City Hospital in Baghdad on Tuesday, 17 May 2005. The Shaykh had been killed by those forces after his arrest was announced on television by a satellite TV network.”

Kazakh minister favors withdrawal of Kazakh contingent from Iraq.

Kazakh Defense Minister General Mukhtar Altynbayev supports the withdrawal of the Kazakh contingent from Iraq. “It’s time to think about stopping the work of our formation in Iraq,’ the minister told reporters in the Kazakh capital Astana on Tuesday.

Asked whether he would submit his proposal to the president, Altynbayev said: “I have expressed my opinion. I think the head of state and parliament will hear about it on TV.”

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, of which Kazakhstan was a constituent republic, the country has increasingly been drawn into the orbit of Washington. Astana sent a 27-man-strong sapper platoon to Iraq in August 2003 to serve the American occupation there.

The platoon is clearing mines and working on water supplies, according to Interfax.
Interfax reported that since its deployment, the Kazakh contingent has neutralized over 3 million mines and unexploded bombs and shells. One Kazakh soldier has been killed and several wounded in the operation, the Russian news agency reported.

Diyala Province.

Al-Mundhiriyah.

Resistance executes band of Iranian intelligence saboteurs.

Iraqi Resistance forces killed seven Iranians, believed to be agents of Iranian intelligence, who infiltrated across the border near al-Mundhiriyah into Iraq illegally. The Iranians were found in possession of weapons and explosives, witnesses and Sunni sources told Mafkarat al-Islam.

Killed along with the seven Iranians was one Iraqi resident of the border area who was apparently acting as their guide. Later, the Iraqi puppet police found the eight bodies.

A communiqu signed by the Salafi Squadrons of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, and distributed around the area, took responsibility for the elimination of the Iranians, saying that they intended to commit acts of sabotage in the Land of the Two Rivers, and that they “received their just punishment after confessing to their ugly intentions.”

Kirkuk.

Resistance car bomber blasts US checkpoint in Kirkuk, killing six Americans, three Iraqi puppet troops. US forces evacuate Americans, leave Iraqi casualties behind.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a joint US-Iraqi puppet checkpoint in Kirkuk at 11am local time Tuesday morning. Captain Samand Bahjat of the local puppet police told Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast killed six American soldiers and three Iraqi puppet troops.

Captain Bahjat showed resentment over the fact that the Americans evacuated their dead from the area, but left their Iraqi stooges lying there in their pools of blood. Captain Bahjat noted that such behavior contradicted what the Americans told the Iraqi puppet forces, namely that the Iraqi puppet army and the American army were united as one in confronting what they call “terrorism” ﾐ meaning the Iraqi Resistance.
