Al-Anbar Province.

Al-Qa’im.

Iraqi Resistance hails victory as US ends “operation matador” retreats from battle zone.

US forces announced the end on Sunday of their so-called “operation matador” against Iraqi Resistance forces in the area of al-Qa’im on the border with Syria. The announcement followed seven days of bitter fighting and grueling combat acknowledged for its difficulty by the occupation forces in several of their official press conferences ﾐ designed to put as positive a face on the American operations as possible.

Correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Qa’im, ar-Rummanah, and al-Karabilah confirmed that US occupation forces had not been able to break into any of these cities and towns. Local people emphasized that fact as well, saying that the reason the US forces called off their offensive and lifted their blockade of the city was their failure in battle and the heavy losses they sustained at the hands of the Resistance on the outskirts of al-Qa’im.

A correspondent reported that the occupation forces brought along a correspondent for the Arabic-language al-Hurrah propaganda TV station (which broadcasts from Virginia, USA) and from the American CNN TV company and told them to film a number of destroyed houses and empty streets in areas on the outskirts of the city of al-Qa’im that the Americans controlled, but which had never been controlled by the Resistance. The aim of that propaganda show obviously was to “prove” that the US had been able to take the city.

Resistance fighters confirmed that the US forces withdrew from the area around the city after failing to break in. It was a battle that the people are still talking about because the greatest army in the world was unable to take a city of 50,000 people even after seven days of concerted efforts to do so. In the end all the invaders could do was announce their “victory” and leave.

The correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam intereviewed Resistance leaders and fighters in the city and reported that the Resistance in al-Qa’im regards the Battle of al-Qa’im as a battle they definitely won, defeating and humiliating the US invaders.

The correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam confirmed on Sunday morning that during the night American forces had withdrawn more than 400 military vehicles that had been deployed around al-Qa’im and the nearby villages and towns of ar-Rummanah, al-Karabilah, al-‘Ubaydi, and Sa‘dah. It took the Americans some two hours to pull out their vehicles, as Iraqi Resistance rocket attacks targeted the retreating American columns. The American withdrawal clearly shows that US claims of “victory” and “success” are entirely false.

The US Marines pulled out dozens of armored vehicles from the area around al-Qa’im on Sunday morning as mosques in the city broadcast the triumphant cry Allahu akbar! “God is greatest!”.

Resistance declares victory as US troops pull back to Hit.

Later on Sunday, the Resistance officially proclaimed its victory in what it calls the Second Battle of the Clans, the name that the Resistance fighters gave to the battle on its first day, alluding to a battle in the time of the Prophet Muhammad. Local people came out after days of bombing to search for the bodies of their townsmen and Resistance fighters under the rubble, finding an estimated 20 bodies, including those of women and children.

The correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam noted that all the US vehicles retreated from the area around al-Qa’im to the US ‘Ayn al-Asad base in Hit at very high speed and under unprecedented cover taking side roads in order to speed their departure from the battle zone.

US warplanes continued to prowl the skies over al-Karabilah and ar-Rummanah and their environs but at very high altitude, so as to avoid being struck by ground fire.

US hauls away 83 wrecked vehicles from around al-Qa’im.

In a bulletin posted at 7:15pm Mecca time Sunday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that their correspondent in al-Qa’im reported that a short while before, the Americans who are retreating from the area hauled away dozens of wrecked and disabled military vehicles on the bed of giant military trucks.

The correspondent reported that he counted about 83 disabled and destroyed vehicles that the Americans hauled away under a heavy escort of Humvees and armored Humvees with air cover from helicopters in the sky above.

Local witnesses reported that before the Americans began to haul away the damaged vehicles from around al-Qa’im, they had already evacuated wrecked vehicles from the environs of the town of al-‘Ubaydi, east of the city.

Ar-Ramadi.

US forces behind all attacks on civilians: Iraqi Resistance communiqu warns of dirty and deadly tricks perpetrated by occupation to cause civilian deaths.

The Iraqi Resistance in ar-Ramadi issued a communiqu Sunday, a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam, in which it accused the US occupation, the Zionists, and the Iraqi puppet regime of carrying out attacks with car bombs on markets and other public places and of firing mortars at residential neighborhoods in attacks that are blamed on the Resistance. This is done in an attempt to deter the Iraqi people from supporting the Iraqi Resistance and to try to produce informants among the population who would cooperate with the invaders against the Resistance fighters, the communiqu explained.

The communiqu declared before God that the Iraqi Resistance does not target Iraqi civilians, regardless of who they are. No such attacks are carried out by the Iraqi Resistance, the communiqu stated. The Resistance directs all car bombs and other attacks at the occupation and its stooges outside residential areas.

When attacks on crowded markets or other public places occur, the communiqu said: “Look for who it is that benefits from these explosions and you will know who is the criminal behind them. So that truth may not be confused with falsehood, we say: the blood of the Muslims is not cheap for us as it is for the Crusaders. We do not shed it in this way, particularly since one of the important reasons that we declared our jihad against the Crusaders was to protect the lives of the Muslims. We remember the saying of the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s peace and blessings be upon him, that ‘the first issues to be decided on the Day of Resurrection will be cases where blood has been shed’ and his saying that ‘a man is in good stead with his religion so long as he has not caused any wrongful bloodshed.’”

The Resistance statement went on to say, “We remind the world that our enemies are the Crusaders and their stooges in the puppet police and army, and spies, as well as the apostate pro-Iranian ‘government’ that we would fight even if they were not lackeys of the occupation. So it cannot be expected that we will stop fighting this regime which is the creature of the Crusaders and the servant of Jewry.”

The communiqu warned of specific dirty practices by the US occupation and its stooges, such as packing explosives inside the trunk of an unsuspecting person’s car when he is stopped at a checkpoint and then detonating them by remote control at an appropriate time to kill civilians.

Another of their practices is to use helicopters to attack specific cars that they wish to target, leaving the impression that a martyrdom car bomber has detonated the car in a crowded public place.

Four US troops reported killed in Resistance ambush near ar-Ramadi.

In a dispatch posted at 1:45pm Mecca time Sunday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a detachment of Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a US patrol on the highway in the 5km area west of ar-Ramadi Sunday.

The ar-Ramadi correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local residents who witnessed the attack as saying that the Resistance fighters, armed with light weapons and RPG7 rocket-propelled grenades, ambushed a patrol of four American Humvees. The correspondent reported that the attack totally destroyed two Humvees and killed four US troops.

US forces find bodies of puppet troops.

In a dispatch posted at 12:45pm Mecca time Sunday, Mafkarat al-Islam quoted Iraqi puppet security sources as saying that the bodies of 10 Iraqi puppet troops had been found by US occupation forces. The puppet troops had been shot to death by the Resistance in the city of ar-Ramadi, 110km west of Baghdad.

The puppet so-called “Iraqi ministry of defense” said that the corpses were discovered on Saturday and that the men had been dead for about two days.

Resistance releases puppet “governor” of al-Anbar Province.

Iraqi puppet security sources announced on Sunday that the puppet “governor” of al-Anbar Province, Raja Nawaf, had been released by his abductors. The Kuwaiti News Agency, monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam, reported that the kidnappers of the puppet governor had threatened to kill the puppet “governor” and his aides if the US military offensive against al-Qa’im were not called off. After the US announced the end of its campaign in that area, the puppet “governor” reportedly was released.

Iraqi Resistance forces abducted the puppet “governor” and his aides and bodyguards on the ar-Ramadi ﾐ al-Qa’im Highway on Tuesday, 10 May 2005, just one week after Nawaf took office.

Al-Hadithah.

Resistance bomb kills US soldier Sunday afternoon.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a column of US armored vehicles north of the city of al-Hadithah, 350km west of Baghdad Sunday afternoon. Residents of the village of al-Ma‘adid, north of al-Hadithah told Mafkarat al-Islam that a Resistance bomb blew up next to a passing American column at 3pm local time, disabling one armored vehicle and killing one American soldier and wounding five more.

Resistance bombards notorious American Abu Ghurayb camp Sunday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded the US base in the Abu Ghurayb area west of Baghdad with 14 rockets, believed to be of the Katyusha type on Sunday afternoon. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the barrage sent plumes of smoke rising over the eastern parts of the notorious prison camp and that the Americans responded with an artillery barrage targeted on the source of the rocket fire.

The correspondent reported, however, that the American bombardment failed to inflict any casualties on the Resistance fighters who withdrew swiftly after carrying out their attack.

Gunmen in civilian clothes stage strange raid on mosque, houses in Baghdad, abduct 17 persons.

In a strange development unknown armed men wearing civilian clothes and driving five four-wheel drive Landcruiser cars stormed into the al-Iskan Mosque in the at-Tajribiyah area of the al-Iskan neighborhood of Baghdad at 6am Sunday morning local time. The unknown men broke down the door of the mosque and kidnapped the guard of the mosque who is the son of the imam, Mafkarat al-Islam reported in a dispatch posted at 6:10pm Mecca time Sunday evening.

After kidnapping the guard, the same gunmen broke into seven houses around the mosque and robbed them of money and belongings. They attacked, vulgarly insulted, and beat the women and children residents and then kidnapped 16 men ﾐ taking all of them away to an unknown destination.

A statement issued by the Information Bureau of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars, the highest Sunni religious authority in the country, stated that this attack and the manner in which it was carried out appear very strange because the gunmen wore civilian clothes and did not appear to belong to any group or party. Yet their methods of operating were precisely the same as those followed by the US occupation forces and their Iraqi puppet troops when attacking mosques and raiding and ransacking houses, where they too regularly steal property, money and valuables belonging to residents, and beat and insult families using foul language, after which they drag off several persons under arrest.

The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ noted that this latest raid follows a series of escalating attacks, arrests, and assassinations being carried out by the American occupation forces and their stooges, particularly since the new puppet “government” of Shi‘i chauvinist Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari took office.

The new “government” has embarked on a course of persecuting and repressing the Sunni population of Iraq, promoting sectarian separatism in service of divisive American aims in the Arab region. The attack also follows meetings reported by the western media between al-Ja‘fari and US officials in which the latter pressured the Iraqi puppet “prime minister” to crack down hard on the Iraqi Resistance.

Puppet regime forces kill Sunni religious leader, arrest another in growing sectarian repression.

Shaykh Hamid Mukhlif ad-Dulaymi, the imam of the Sunni al-Arqam Mosque in the Baghdad district of Madinat ash-Sha‘b was assassinated in a raid by puppet regime forces on the mosque at dawn Sunday according to a statement issued by the Information and Culture Department of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama Scholars, the highest Sunni religious authority in occupied Iraq.

The statement said that puppet so-called “Iraqi national guards” and “shock police” also arrested Shaykh Hasan an-Nu‘aymi a member of the Consultative Council of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’. The shaykh is also the imam and preacher in the ash-Shahid Yusuf Mosque in the Madinat ash-Sha‘b area of Baghdad.

The Board statement noted that Shakh Hasan an-Nu ‘aymi is the third member of the Board’s Consultative Council to be imprisoned by the occupation and its stooges, following the arrest of Shaykh ‘Abd as-Sattar ‘Abd al-Jabbar and ‘Abd al-Karim Jum‘ah, the head of the branch of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ in Jalula’.

The murder of the one shaykh and arrest of another come amid a growing campaign by the Shi‘i chauvinist leaders of the newly-installed puppet government of Ibrahim al-Ja‘fari to persecute and repress the Sunni population of Iraq, promoting sectarian separatism in service of divisive American aims in the Arab region.

Puppet so-called “Iraqi national guards” loyal to the American invaders raided the Al al-Bayt Mosque on Palestine Street in downtown Baghdad at midnight Saturday-Sunday. The attacking puppet troops broke down the exterior and interior doors of the mosque and wrecked the building. They then arrested two guards who worked for the Sunni Waqf Pious Endowment Administration, according to a statement issued by the Information Bureau of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’, the highest Sunni religious authority in occupied Iraq, a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam.

The Board statement said that after the raid on the mosque, the puppet “national guards” then attacked the home of Shaykh Taha az-Zaydi, the imam and preacher in the mosque and Chairman of the League of Islamic Information. There they arrested Shaykh Taha.

The mosque raided by the puppet “national guards” serves as the headquarters of the ar-Rusafah Branch of the Information and Cultural Committee of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’. The raid comes against the backdrop of a growing series of attacks mounted by the puppet regime against the Sunni population, designed to serve divisive US and Zionist plans in the region by stirring up sectarian sentiments. Bodies of 13 bearded men found shot to death and dumped in eastern Baghdad.

Iraqi puppet police reported finding the bodies of 13 men who were shot to death and left in a Baghdad garbage dump, Reuters reported Sunday, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam. The bodies had their hands tied and most were bearded. They had been shot in the head and left in an area in eastern Baghdad where another 14 bodies were recently found.

The puppet police official said that local people had informed them that a garbage truck showed up early Sunday morning and dumped the bodies. The official said that the report about the dumping had been confirmed.

Al-Iskandariyah.

Bodies of 11 men found in al-Iskandariyah Sunday.

Iraqi puppet police in al-Iskandariyah, south of Baghdad announced that they had found the bodies of 11 men on Sunday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. Four of them had been beheaded. It was clear that at least three of them were members of the Iraqi puppet army run by the United States.

Earlier on Sunday the puppet so-called “Iraqi defense ministry” announced that the Americans had found the bodies of 10 men shot to death in ar-Ramadi. (See story under ar-Ramadi, above.)

Diyala Province.

Ba ‘qubah.

Resistance car bomb blasts into US column, killing seven American troops Sunday morning.
An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden Opel car into a US military column in the middle of Ba‘qubah, east of Baghdad, Sunday morning. Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance fighter blasted into a convoy of six US armored vehicles, destroying two Humvees and killing seven US troops and wounding others.

Witnesses confirmed that the American dead were left for about half an hour on the ground after the blast, emphasizing that the other soldiers who survived the attack ran away on foot terrified that they would come under a follow-up Resistance attack.

For its part the Resistance organization Base Qa‘idah of the Jihad in the Land of the Two Rivers announced its responsibility for the attack in a communiqu, a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam.

Resistance martyrdom fighters target motorcade of puppet governor of Diyala Province.

Two Iraqi Resistance bombs exploded under the motorcade of the puppet governor of Diyala Province in Ba‘quba, 65km northeast of Baghdad, on Sunday morning according to the local puppet police. Three puppet policemen were killed in the blasts.

Reuters, as monitored by Mafkarat al-Islam and posted at 9:12am Sunday Mecca time, quoted the puppet police as saying that the puppet governor himself, Ra‘d Rashid, escaped unharmed, but two civilians were killed and 20 other persons were wounded.

The attack began when an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter blew up an explosives-laden car in the path of Rashid’s motorcade. The puppet police claimed that that explosion caused no casualties. But then a second Resistance attacker approached the motorcade on foot and detonated a deadly explosive belt he was wearing.

Resistance ambushes US truck convoy north of Bayji Sunday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance fighters attacked a convoy of US military trucks loaded with supplies and equipment for American occupation troops on the main road north of Bayji, 200km north of Baghdad. Residents of the al-Jadirah village north of Bayji told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the city that Resistance fighters attacked the American truck convoy at 3pm local time Sunday, setting two trucks ablaze and killing three US troops and wounding four more.

Resistance martyrdom car bomber targets US patrol in Mosul.

In a dispatch posted at 1:10pm Mecca time Sunday, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that an Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter drove an explosives-laden car into a US patrol in the al-Hudaba’ neighborhood of northwest Mosul.

Residents of the area who witnessed the attack told Mafkarat al-Islam that the martyrdom fighter drove an Opel car into the US troops on 20 Street in the middle of the al-Hudaba’ neighborhood and blew up, destroying two Humvees and killing six American troops and wounding two more.

In cold blood, US helicopter, ground troops combine forces to kill two civilian families in Mosul Friday, Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ discloses.

In a new American attack on the Iraqi civilian population, a US helicopter gunship opened fire on two civilian cars, each carrying a family, in the Dumiz neighborhood of Mosul.

A statement issued by the Information Bureau of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ Scholars, the highest Sunni religious authority in occupied Iraq, a copy of which was obtained by Mafkarat al-Islam, said that the American attack killed the driver of one of the two cars along with all the members of his family except his aged mother who survived with burns. In the other car, all the members of that family were also killed except for a little five-year-old girl. The little girl survived the initial attack and tried to crawl out the back of the car. Some earnest people who happened to be on the scene rushed to try to rescue the girl but American troops who witnessed the crime committed by their helicopter thought only to outdo the fliers and opened fire on the rescuers and the little girl, killing all of them. The US invader troops were thus able to relish the scene of the terrified little girl engulfed in flames before her death and afterwards they had the opportunity to survey the scene of their bloody “combined forces” massacre that left body parts of innocent people scattered everywhere.

The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ noted that the Friday massacre in Mosul was the latest in a growing trend of US crimes against the civilian population of occupied Iraq.
