2.9.2005 at 16:02
The Finnish National Public Health Institute announced Friday confirmation that the bird flu virus type discovered in seagulls in Oulu is not of the dangerous type that can pass to humans.
Finland's first ever suspected bird flu case was studied in both Finland and Britain.

Traders estimate that the loss from returning a single grain shipment to port in Russia will amount to $1.25 million for a load of 50,000 tons. This year's grain harvest is expected to amount to 76-78 metric million tons, 10-12 million tons of which (more than $1.2 billion) are slated for export. Iran accounted for 2.7 percent of Russian wheat export last year, at 9.1 tons at $27 million. The Russian Agricultural Inspection Service has promised to take action in the situation but is making no comments so far. It sent an enquiry to Iran a week ago but has yet to receive an official response.
“You don't have to be a specialist to understand that bird flu is not spread in that manner,” Kirill Podolsky, head of the Yugtranzitservis shipping company, observed.

IRAN BANS IMPORT OF FODDER WHEAT
[September 02, 2005, 18:15:38]
Iran has imposed a ban on the import of fodder wheat from all countries where there is incidence of so-called bird flu, Russia included, the Iranian press reported on Thursday with a reference to Abbas Moazzeni, the deputy director of the foreign trade department of Iran’s Ministry of Commerce.
Iran has imported 63,000 tonnes of fodder wheat from early June till the introduction of the ban. Experts believe Tehran’s decision may have an adverse effect on the grain market of all the Caspian countries.
Commenting on the situation, Vladimir Petrichenko, analyst of WJ Interagro, said the embargo on the purchase of Russian wheat had led to export prices dropping last week by 3 dollars 38 cents to 87 dollars 41 cents per tonne.
