Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 18 March 2005. Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member editorial board The Free Arab Voice.

Friday, 18 March 2005.

Al-Anbar Province.
Al-Hadithah.

Double car bombing leaves a reported 34 US troops dead in al-Hadithah early Friday afternoon.

Two Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighters driving two explosives-laden cars blasted into a column of nine US military vehicles, including troop carriers, regular and armored Humvees, in the ar-Rifa‘i neighborhood to the north of al-Hadithah at 1pm local time Friday.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in al-Hadithah, a city that the US has encircled and cut off from the outside world, reported that the double martyrdom car bombing destroyed three Zil troop transports, two regular Humvees and one armored Humvee. The powerful blasts killed a total of 34 American troops.

Witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that one of the attack cars was an Opel and the other a pickup. The two vehicles, they said, blasted into the American column from both directions on the main street in the neighborhood, exploding simultaneously. In addition to the 34 dead, the witnesses said there were numerous American wounded.

The correspondent at the scene said that the blood oozing from the bodies of the dead Americans strewn about the street mingled with the rain water that was coming down and running off into the sewer openings on both sides of the road.

After the attack, US forces imposed a total curfew on the city. All roads leadint to and from the city were sealed and all telephone communication ミ landlines, internet, and cell phones ミ was cut off.

The US forces acknowledged the double martyrdom attack via the “al-‘Iraqiyah” satellite TV station but they failed to disclose the number of Americans killed, saying only that there “were dead and wounded.”

Al-Qa’im.

American troops kidnap Iraqi children to use as human shields.

US forces kidnapped 10 children outside their homes in downtown al-Qa’im, a town on the Syrian border. The local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported one of the parents of the arrested children said that the US troops captured the children and then put them on the tops of tanks and armored vehicles and then set off with them on heavy patrols inside the city.

In his report posted at 12:50pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, the correspondent said that the patrols were still underway at the time of writing. The children were obviously being used as human shields to prevent the Resistance from attacking the American armored vehicles.

The correspondent reported that he himself had personally seen the children on the vehicles, two children on each vehicle. The children were frightened and in tears and mothers and fathers ran after the American tanks and APCs, imploring the invaders to let their children go.

For its part, the Iraqi Resistance in the city promised the people of the city and the parents of the children in particular that they would not attack the US forces today, for fear of harming the children. The correspondent noted that at that moment US troops were doing whatever they wanted inside the city, feeling secure behind the “wall” of Iraqi child shields.

The correspondent noted, however, that the Resistance would not endure this situation for long, particularly after the Americans stormed into areas around the city that they would not previously have dreamed of entering, such as the phosphate mines that the Americans have nicknamed the “Bermuda Triangle” because of the high number of Resistance attacks that have taken place in that area.

Ar-Ramadi.

Resistance roadside bomb kills six US troops on patrol in ar-Ramadi late Friday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded by a column of US troops who were on a routine Friday foot patrol walking down the al-Mal‘ab Neighborhood road west of ar-Ramadi at 11:45am Friday morning local time. The patrol takes US troops by all of the mosques in the area on the Muslim day of congregational prayer.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast killed six US troops and wounded three more, according to a member of the puppet police. The puppet policeman also said that the bomb was planted near the al-Haqq Mosque and that it went off next to a foot patrol made up of about 15 US soldiers.

In his dispatch posted at 12:05pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that US troops were still encircling the area and prevented worshippers from going into the mosque for the usual Friday congregational prayer. The Americans also arrested four persons who were trying to enter the mosque when the bomb exploded. The US troops inspected the four, thinking that they might have carried the bomb that later exploded.

Al-Fallujah.

Resistance bomb kills four US troops in al-Fallujah Friday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 3:16pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier an Iraqi Resistance bomb had exploded by a US patrol as it passed through the Ta‘s Na‘umi neighborhood of al-Fallujah. The blast totally destroyed a Humvee and killed four US troops, according to a source in the Iraqi puppet police.

At the time of reporting, US forces were closing the roads leading to the area with barbed wire as they prepared to evacuate the bodies of the dead soldiers. The correspondent wrote that the power of the explosion was such that it blew one of the soldiers a long distance, having blasted his body into small pieces.

Nine US troops killed in second bombing in al-Fallujah late Friday afternoon.

In a second Resistance bombing on Friday, Resistance forces detonated a high-explosive bomb by a column of US troops on foot on al-Karinat Street in the industrial zone in the eastern part of al-Fallujah at 5:30pm Friday afternoon, local time. The blast killed nine US troops instantly.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a lieutenant in the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guard” as saying that the bomb was planted under a discarded car parts on al-Karinat Street, killing nine US troops, some of their bodies ripped into small pieces by the force of the blast.

The correspondent was unable to get to the place where the blast occurred because US troops had already closed off the area.

Baghdad.

“Boldest Resistance attack ever” hits US ar-Rashid base south of Baghdad.

A correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in the ar-Rashid area south of Baghdad reported that detachment of about 50 Iraqi Resistance fighters ミ some of whom, witnesses said, were Iraqi and some fraternal Arab volunteers from outside Iraq ミ stormed the ar-Rashid camp used by the Americans as their headquarters in the area, called “Kilizan.”

The Resistance fighters entered the camp by using bayonets to kill three American guards and then cutting through the barbed wire that surrounds the base. Inside, the Resistance fighters attacked three regular Humvees and one armored Humvee, killing eight US troops who were near the vehicles. The Resistance confiscated the four Humvees and drove them out of the American camp, and from there out of the city, taking with them all the weapons, technical equipment, military maps, and communications gear that was in the vehicles.

The correspondent wrote that as soon as the Americans learned that the Resistance had infiltrated into their camp, killed their personnel and commandeered four of their vehicles, they sent troops out into the city to carry out a thorough search for the Resistance fighters.

In his dispatch posted at 12:20pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent wrote that correspondents for Knight-Ridder, the American Time magazine, and several Arab and international news agencies worked in front of the American camp and the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent was among them. But it was only the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent who relayed the story based in part on sources in the Iraqi Resistance and also on an interview with a member of the US military who did not deny the story but refused to make any statement about it.

The correspondent noted that the American camps in the area were more tense than usual, however, each camp carrying out inspections of other camps, trying to find out if the missing vehicles might be among them. The correspondent wrote that the US soldiers and Marines in the southern part of Baghdad for the last six hours had been in a state of nervous doubt and mutual suspicion as a result of the break in.

Witnesses resident in the ar-Rashid area said that they saw the Resistance fighters rushing out of the city with the four captured vehicles which were being driven by men whose faces were covered. A witness said that the vehicles were indeed being driven by Resistance fighters and that their driving was “somewhat bad.”

The correspondent called the Resistance operation the boldest since the US occupation. He noted that the area to the south of Baghdad is heavily over grown with thickets and with farmland and that 40 US spy planes and 30 helicopters at the time of reporting were crisscrossing the skies above in search of the captured vehicles. It is believed that a helicopter carrying a high-ranking US commander landed a short while before inside the camp into which the Resistance was able to penetrate.

“Friendly fire”: nervous US soldiers kill four US Marines in ar-Rashid area following Resistance break-in at American base.

Four American troops were killed by so-called “friendly fire” in the ar-Rashid area of southern Baghdad at 4pm Friday afternoon local time.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local witnesses as saying that one Humvee was heading from the west of the city towards the center at very high speed when a US column spotted the vehicle as they came out from a side street and into the path of the racing Humvee. Troops in the column opened very intense fire on the Humvee, in the belief that the vehicle was one of those taken in a Resistance break in to the ar-Rashid base Friday morning. The soldiers in the US column believed that the speeding Humvee was one of the captured vehicles being used in a martyrdom attack on themselves, hence their fierce response.

Witnesses said that the incident left four American troops dead and the Humvee destroyed. They said that after opening fire on the Humvee, the Americans in the column then saw three more Humvees pull out from a side street behind the first. They then realized that they had shot up part of a US Marine patrol in the area.

The correspondent received confirmation of the incident from a member of the puppet police, who said that the seizure of the four Humvees by the Resistance Friday morning had put the whole US army in Iraq in a state of confusion.

A member of the US-run Iraqi puppet army told Mafkarat al-Islam that after the break in on the base, the base authorities had begun checking the IDs of their troops when they enter the camp, stopping all the armored and unarmored Humvees to search them, in fear that one of them might be one of the vehicles commandeered by the Resistance coming back on a mission of death.

Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ calls memorial meeting Saturday, on second anniversary of US aggression.

The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ [Scholars]called on all Iraqis to take part in the first memorial meeting to remember the martyrs and in solidarity with prisoners which is to be held on Saturday, 19 March, marking the second anniversary of the American invasion of Iraq.

The Board issued a statement, a copy of which Mafkarat al-Islam obtained, saying:

“On the occasion of the second anniversary of the American-British aggression on Iraq the Human Rights Section of the Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ in Iraq calls on all Iraqis to participate in the first meeting to remember the martyrs and in solidarity with prisoners, to be held in the main hall at the headquarters of the Board in Umm al-Qura Mosque in Baghdad at 11am on 9 Safar 1426 hijri, the equivalent of 19 March 2005.”

The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ is the highest Sunni religious authority in Iraq. It has taken several positions that brought it into conflict with the US occupation authorities, in particular its opposition to the recent election farce held on 30 January, which Sunni Iraqis boycotted throughout the country, affirming the illegality of elections under occupation.

Resistance bomb kills four US troops on road to Abu Ghurayb Friday morning.

An Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded by a US military column on the road to Abu Ghurayb, 30km west of Baghdad at 9am Friday morning local time. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast completely destroyed a Humvee and killed four US troops instantly. An officer in the puppet so-called “Iraqi rapid deployment force” in the city confirmed the information about incident to the correspondent.

Bulgarian troop cut part of planned withdrawal from Iraq.

The Bulgarian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday that it will be reducing its occupation forces in Iraq from 462 men to 370 by the end of June, in the course of an envisaged withdrawal of all Bulgarian occupation troops from the country. On Tuesday the Bulgarian President had urged that Bulgarian occupation troops be completely withdrawn from Iraq by the end of 2005.

Salah ad-Din Province.
Samarra’.

Three American soldiers killed in bombing in Samarra’ Friday morning.

AN Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US armored vehicle column in the ash-Shurtah neighborhood of downtown Samarra’, 150km north of Baghdad, at 10am Friday morning, local time. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that the blast disabled a Humvee, killing three US troops.

Witnesses said that two Resistance fighters planted the bomb next to the road, covering it with a mound of garbage. The resulting blast flipped a US Humvee over and three US troops, they said, and left a fourth seriously wounded. One witness said that one of the American corpses was found 10 meters from the blast site where it had covered the earth with blood.

The other US troops in the column got out of their vehicles after the blast and surrounded the area. They then called in helicopters to evacuate the bodies.

Tikrit.

Resistance sharp shooter kills US soldier in Tikrit early Friday afternoon.

In a dispatch posted at 4:10pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while before, an Iraqi Resistance sharpshooter had shot and killed a US soldier in Tikrit, north of Baghdad.

Witnesses told the correspondent that a US foot patrol was stopped near one of the mosques listening to the Friday sermon over loudspeakers, waiting to see what the preacher would say. This is a usual practice for the invaders who have for several months closely monitored Friday sermons and arrested any preacher who calls for support for the Resistance or for Jihad in the path of God and strikes against the US forces.

The witnesses said that one of the Americans was shot at 2:15pm, local time, by an Iraqi sharpshooter who was perched atop a residential building opposite the mosque. The Iraqi bullet hit the American soldier in the neck and killed him instantly.

On hearing the indiscriminate gunfire with which the Americans responded to the sharpshooter’s bullet, worshipers came out of the mosque to find an American lying in a pool of blood on the pavement. US troops closed off the area after the attack, confining the worshippers inside the mosque. The Americans then launched a wave of searches, looking for the sharp shooter but found nothing.

Frustrated, the Americans again opened fire indiscriminately on the mosque and threw sound bombs among the worshippers to try to scare them.

Then, having vented their anger at the local population, the Americans withdrew from the area, carrying the body of the dead soldier.

Ninwa Province.
Mosul.

Friday morning car bombing in Mosul kills 19 US troops.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom fighter detonated an explosives-laden car by a US military column west of Mosul on Friday. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the blast totally destroyed a US troop carrier and a Humvee, killing 19 US troops.

The Mosul correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported an officer in the Mosul puppet police station as confirming the above-quoted information on US casualties and loss.

Witnesses also told the correspondent that more than 19 American soldiers were killed in the attack. One of the dead was a Nepalese translator known for his assaults on Iraqis when he accompanied the Americans on their patrols around the city.

The correspondent, who arrived on the scene of the attack shortly after it occurred, saw US military helicopters transporting the dead away. Local people found the charred and dismembered body of the martyrdom fighter about 50 meters away from the blast site. The local people buried him in the Mosul Martyrs’ Cemetery.

Babil Province.
Al-Hillah.

Resistance bomb kills Polish soldier, translator collaborator in al-Hillah.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a Polish column in the city of al-Hillah, about 110km south of Baghdad on Friday morning. The local correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported witnesses as saying that the Resistance planted the bomb by the side of a road in the al-Jabawiyin neighborhood in the center of the city. The bomb went off as a column of four Polish vehicles was passing, disabling one armored vehicle and killing one Polish soldier and wounding three more.

A source in the al-Hillah puppet police confirmed the casualty toll to Mafkarat al-Islam, noting that one of the wounded Poles had been severely injured, and that in addition to them one Iraqi translator collaborating with the Polish invaders was also killed.

Dhi Qar Province.
An-Nasiriyah.

Resistance pounds Italian occupation base with mortar barrage.

Iraqi Resistance forces unleashed a fierce barrage of mortars into the Italian occupation base in the southern Iraqi city of an-Nasiriyah at 7am local time Friday. Resistance fighters fired 14 mortar rounds igniting massive fires inside the Italian compound that raged for about one hour. Black smoke rose into the sky over the facility until 10am.

Al-Basrah Province.
Al-Basrah.

Resistance bombs blast US column entering Iraq from Kuwait.

An American column entering Iraq from Kuwait was met by a series of Iraqi Resistance bombs on what is called the Strategic Road or external road leading to Kuwait on Friday morning. The series of explosions left an undetermined number of US troops dead, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. In addition one Humvee and one troop truck were destroyed.

The Iraqi Resistance group the al-Hasan al-Basri Brigades took credit for the attack and promised more to come.

Resistance bombards Camp Bucca for second straight day.

For the second straight day the Anglo-American Camp Bucca in Umm Qasr near al-Basrah came under Iraqi Resistance bombardment. Resistance forces fired Grad and powerful Tariq rockets into the facility.

Mafakrat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet police as saying that nine rockets blasted into various parts of the Anglo-American prison camp, destroying large parts of the US military hospital in which US troops are treated for wounds received in battle.

The source said that the bombardment took place at 12 noon Friday, local time, and that a number of wounded troops were killed in the attack while others were injured. A reception hall was also destroyed in the bombardment.

The correspondent could see dense clouds of smoke rising over the parts of the camp hit by the barrage, as numerous secondary explosions shook the area ミ attributed by the source to American munitions exploding in the southern part of the facility.

Earlier, the Anglo-Americans expelled a number of Iraqi translators who had been working for them and arrested a number of others, charging them with leaking information about the camp and where the invader troops are located to the Resistance.

The translators now working with the Americans were hired recently at astronomical salaries. Other translators who leaked news that 25,000 US troops had left through the base were fired about one month ago, the correspondent noted.
