Over 1 Milllion Lebanese Take To The Streets To Support Syria, Resistance

More than one million Lebanese took to the street Tuesday in support of Syria and the regime of Lebanese president Emile Lahoud.
The demonstrators, who gathered in one of Beirut's major open areas, the Riad Al-Solh square, condemned Security Council Resolution 1559, which called for a prompt withdrawal of foreign forces from Lebanon and for disarming all militias, including Hezbollah and the Palestinians.
The demonstrators, who came from various parts of the country, shouted slogans in support of Syria and the Lebanese regime. They also expressed support to Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad and the Lebanese anti-Israeli resistance.
They condemned "the US and French interference in Lebanon's affairs and shouted that Resolution 1559, "which serves Israel's interests, is aimed at undermining the Lebanese resistance." They waved Lebanese flags and pictures of Assad, Lahoud and the late former prime minister Rafiq Al-Hariri, who perished last month as a result of a car bomb assassination attack in downtown Beirut.
"No to the resettlement of Palestinians (in Lebanon)," and "we want to know the truth (about the assassination)" some of the slogans said. Others paid tribute to Syria over its "sacrifices for Lebanon." "The picture was incomplete in the past few days. But today it is with this demonstration," pro-Hezbollah legislator Abdullah Qasir said about the demonstration. He adescribed Resolution 1559 as an "Israeli plan for planting the seeds of strife and national disharmony in the country." Meanwhile another legislator, who is loyal to the Shiite Amal Movement, Ayoub Humayyed, rejected Resolution 1559 because "it imposes multi-national political mandate" on Lebanon. He also called for finding Hariri's killers.
Several other speakers, representing parties that are loyal to the regime and to Syria, called on the Lebanese not to forget the Syrian role in Lebanon and for being "faithful to Damascus." They also called for "safeguarding the country's national unity and to prevent Israeli-instigated strife."
