Hit.
US forces evacuate ‘Ayn al-Asad base in Hit following heavy Resistance rocket barrages.
During the first hours of dawn Monday US forces began evacuating the ‘Ayn al-Asad airbase in Hit, western Iraq, Mafkarat al-Islam reported. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam witnessed the withdrawal of more than 300 US tanks, armored vehicles, earth moving machines, and other pieces of construction equipment such as cranes and bulldozers under heavy cover of US fighter aircraft, which flew over the area at an unprecedentedly low altitude. The correspondent added that Apache, Cobra, and Black Hawk helicopters hovered over the column that clogged the international highway.
The correspondent wrote that the US forces were making for Baghdad on the east-bound side of the highway, while Iraqi puppet security forces such as the so-called “national guard” and puppet policemen from outside the area were coming into the area on the west-bound lanes. This massive movement, the correspondent wrote, explains why US forces had closed main roads leading to the highway since yesterday (Sunday), preventing the passage of any traffic onto the highway.
Local people in Hit and the Resistance forces link the withdrawal of the US troops from the base to a declaration by the American forces at a Baghdad press conference that the ‘Ayn al-Asad base had militarily fallen after Resistance rockets were able to strike targets deep within the base. The correspondent wrote that the Americans acknowledged that 44 US troops were killed in one week as a result of Resistance rocket attacks on that base.
Resistance bomb blasts US patrol south of Hit.
In a dispatch posted at 5:02pm Monday afternoon Mecca time, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Hit reported that Iraqi Resistance forces detonated a high-explosive bomb in Hit at 4:15pm local time Monday afternoon, blowing apart a US foot patrol at the Hit-Kubaysah crossroads 3km south of Hit on the strategic road.
The correspondent reported that a puppet police source said that the bomb had been concealed under a large hitching post for livestock. It exploded as a US foot patrol made up of 20 soldiers was passing. Seven American troops were killed immediately and four others wounded. The correspondent reported that one of the wounded men was bleeding from his ears and eyes from the intensity of the blast. US forces arrived and encircled the area, and then launched a search for “suspects.”
Ar-Rutbah.
Resistance shoots down US Chinook transport helicopter near Syrian border.
In a dispatch posted at 10:40am Mecca time Monday morning, a Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that minutes before Iraqi Resistance forces shot down a Chinook transport helicopter north of the city of ar-Rutbah in western Iraq on the Iraqi-Syrian border. The Resistance fired two rockets at the craft bringing it down just one kilometer from where another US helicopter was downed a week earlier. The correspondent reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Chinook was loaded with troops and equipment when it was shot down.
In a follow-up report posted at 11:30am Mecca time, the correspondent reported that 23 US soldiers were killed and 17 others injured in the crash of the Chinook, according to preliminary figures. The correspondent in the area reported eyewitnesses and the puppet police as saying that the US forces had as of that moment recovered 23 American bodies and more than 17 wounded from the wreckage of the aircraft.
The correspondent wrote that helicopters came in and left five times carrying dead and wounded US troops to the US base known as A22, near the Customs Department. At the moment of reporting, American forces were encircling the entire city and townspeople were apprehensive and worried about possible US retaliation against local residents over the downing of the large helicopter.
The correspondent added that eyewitnesses were now confirming that a surface-to-air rocket struck the helicopter directly, bringing it down.
Ar-Ramadi.
Resistance bomb kills four US troops in ar-Ramadi Monday morning.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded by a US military patrol in the al-Mal‘ab neighborhood in downtown ar-Ramadi, west of Baghdad at 9am Monday morning. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the explosion set a Humvee ablaze and killed four American troops. Eyewitnesses said that the bomb that was planted by the side of the road leading to ar-Ramadi sports playing field (al-Mal‘ab) went off just as the US column was passing by.
The witnesses reported that one of the four Americans killed in the blast was the driver whose body was completely charred. They said that it took the American troops fifteen minutes to get his body out of the wreckage of the Humvee, since fire had consumed his limbs and head.
Resistance bombards US al-Warrar base with rockets Monday night.
In a dispatch posted at 9:08pm Monday night Mecca time, the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in ar-Ramadi reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had just fired a series of rocket barrages into the US al-Warrar base near the city.
The correspondent reported that 14 Grad rockets blasted into the US base where, at the time of writing, thick smoke could be seen rising into the sky. The powerful explosions caused by the Grad rockets could be heard throughout all of ar-Ramadi city.
Baghdad.
Resistance attack on US column leaves four Americans dead on Hayfa Street.
Iraqi Resistance forces fired C5K anti-tank rockets at US vehicles on Hayfa Street in Baghdad’s al-Karakh District, totally destroying a Humvee and killing four US troops at 1pm local time, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.
Resistance assassinates two high-ranking puppet police officers.
Two high ranking puppet police officers were killed in an armed attack on their car n Baghdad late Sunday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported Monday in a dispatch posted at 8:35pm Mecca time.
Ba ‘qubah. - Diyala Province.
Three puppet “national guards” reported killed in Resistance bomb attack.
The American CBS television network reported Monday that an Iraqi Resistance roadside bomb exploded in Ba‘qubah as a patrol of the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guard” was passing, killing three puppet guards and wounding three more, according to Muzaffar al-Jubayri of the Diyala puppet police center.
Balad - Salah ad-Din Province.
Resistance shoots down US Black Hawk helicopter. American troops surround village, demand children “terrorists” be handed over to them.
Iraqi Resistance forces near the village of al-Bu Hishmah in the area of Balad, north or Tikrit shot down a US Black Hawk helicopter. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported local eyewitnesses as saying that the US Black Hawk was hovering at an altitude of about 500 meters above the ground and was shot down at 2:20pm local time when Resistance fighters opened fire on it with ground-based machine guns.
One witness who headed to the crash site as soon as it hit the ground said that the helicopter burst into flames in the sky after coming under an intense hail of gunfire from the Resistance ground forces. The two bodies of the crewmen were found in a rice field near by.
The Shaykh of a nearby mosque expressed his anger over the fact that local village youths dragged the bodies of the crewmen and threw them to the dogs that guard the village. The Shaykh said that such behavior violated the teachings of Islamic law. A local citizen told the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, however, that the act was a natural reaction by a boy whose father had been killed before his eyes by occupation troops.
In his dispatch posted at 5:35pm Monday afternoon Mecca time, the correspondent wrote that US forces were still encircling the village and demanding that local townspeople hand over the children who abused the bodies of the Americans, calling them “terrorists.”
Samarra’ - Salah ad-Din Province.
Resistance ambush leaves a reported 20 US troops dead in Samarra’.
Fierce fighting broke out between the Iraqi Resistance and US occupation forces in the al-Mu‘tasim neighborhood in the west of the city of Samarra’ at 6am Monday morning. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam who was present for most of the fighting reported that the combat lasted for an hour and a quarter. He reported that Resistance fighters were armed with their well-known traditional weapons, such as machine guns, pipe rocket launchers, and anti-tank rocket launchers. They were able to destroy four US vehicles - three Humvees of various types and one tank. More than 20 US troops were killed and five more wounded in the battle. Most of the wounded are in serious condition.
A member of the local puppet police reported that the Resistance took advantage of the fact that streets were empty of traffic to launch a pre-planned ambush on US forces. The Resistance forces closed in on the Americans from three main streets, surrounding and confining them to one street from which escape routes were cut. The Resistance fighters also took advantage of the difficulty that the tanks and armored vehicles have in moving and turning around in narrow streets, attacking the Americans from hidden vantage points - something practiced by the Resistance in al-Fallujah with considerable success.
The source told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Resistance had the most important thing on their side in the engagement: surprise. The US forces could hardly recover from one blow before being hit by more blows. As a result, the Resistance suffered no casualties in the fighting, other than three men who were slightly wounded and are now in good condition. The source, a member of the puppet police who asked to remain anonymous, told Mafkarat al-Islam, “if I had some way to earn my living other than in the police force, I would have joined the Resistance and be working with them.”
Deadly Resistance car bomb hits US troops in ad-Durah.
An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military column in the Sukkaniya area of the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah on Monday, killing a reported 11 US troops, Mafkarat al-Islam reported.
A correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in Baghdad wrote that the blast occurred on the road to the former al-Fida’ works at 5am local time. The al-Fida’ works belonged to the Iraqi Army before the US invasion of the country. A Resistance bomb exploded as a US military column of several vehicles was passing, destroying one troop transport vehicle and disabling a Humvee.
Eyewitnesses and members of the fire department who immediately raced to the scene told Mafkarat al-Islam that a Nissan pickup driven by a martyrdom fighter attacked the American column. The fighter in the truck was completely hidden under a tree and suddenly drove out and slammed into the American column, not giving the Americans time to resist or avoid the onrushing vehicle. The witnesses said that 11 US troops were killed instantly in the explosion.
Mosul.
Resistance bomb targets US column in Mosul Monday afternoon.
An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded by a US military column made up of four Humvees in the al-Yarmuk neighborhood of downtown Mosul at 4pm Monday afternoon local time, witnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam. Witnesses said that the blast destroyed two Humvees and killed nine US troops and two Iraqi collaborator translators. Seven American troops were also wounded in varying degrees.
Witnesses and firemen who rushed to the scene minutes after the attack reported that a white Daewoo car driven by a martyrdom fighter raced at high speed for the US column. US forces acknowledged that they suffered losses in the attack but concealed the numbers, the correspondent reported.
A hitherto unknown Iraqi Resistance organization announced its responsibility for the attack in a communiqu posted on the door of a Mosul mosque. The group, calling itself the Lions of the Arabian Peninsula pledged to make their coming operation a “mortal blow to the heads of the Americans.”
Kirkuk.
“Sabotage” blamed for attack on gas and oil pipelines north of Kirkuk.
A number of explosions inflicted damage on one gas pipeline and one oil pipeline north of the city of Kirkuk, covering the city with a pall of black smoke on Monday morning, according to a correspondent of Agence France Presse (AFP).
An official in the Oil of the North company said that the first blast took place on Sunday night and damaged a gas pipeline linking the Havana oil field, 40km north of Kirkuk, with the city itself, 255km north of Baghdad. The official said that “a fire erupted after the explosion,” which he attributed to an act of “sabotage” that took place at 10pm local time Sunday night.
The local puppet police reported that a second blast damaged a neighboring oil pipeline and a third that carried drinking water. The cause of that blast was unclear. The intensity of the flame prevented fire fighters from getting to the pipes, even though they arrived on the scene at 6:30am Monday morning, where they could determine whether the explosion was the result of hand grenades or rockets.
The Oil of the North company said that this was the first attack on the oilfields in this area - between the Havana fields and Kikuk - in four months. On 9 February a rocket attack damaged an oil pipeline linking Kirkuk with the Bayji refinery. That attack came two days after another rocket barrage struck an oil pipeline in the area.
Later in the day, puppet Major General Anwar Muhammad Amin announced that a fire had broken out in an oil field near Kirkuk. Amin said that work was underway to repair the blazing pipeline but that it would take three days to complete.
