Al-Qa‘idah in the Land of the Two Rivers denounces al-Jazeera for claiming that their attack in Balad Ruz targeted a Shi‘i mosque. The real target were puppet forces and al-Jazeera twisted the facts to curry favor with Washington.
The Resistance organization Base of the Resistance in the Land of the Two Rivers, a group affiliated with al-Qa‘idah and run by Abu Mus‘ab az-Zarqawi, issued a statement on the internet accusing al-Jazeera satellite TV of slanting its report on an attack that the organization carried out. The internet statement said that al-Jazeera was trying to win the affection of the United States by spreading mistaken information.
The statement was in reference to al-Jazeera’s coverage of a bomb attack that took place near a Shi‘i mosque in Balad Ruz, north of Baghdad, in which 12 persons were killed. Al-Jazeera reported that the attack targeted the Shi‘i mosque at a time when worshippers were leaving the building. But the al-Qa‘idah organization emphasized that the target of the attack was a column of Iraqi puppet “national guards” who happened to be near the mosque.
The statement said, “after we published a communiqu announcing our responsibility for the attack, . . . we found that al-Jazeera was trying to change the facts and ascribe to us something we did not say.” It went on, “we did not say in the communiqu that we were targeting the mosque, but rather that we were targeting the apostate national guards, whom we struck directly.”

In a press conference Sunday carried by al-Jazeera satellite TV, the commission announced that the united list supported by pro-American Shi‘i cleric ‘Ali as-Sistanti had obtained 4.75 million votes, or 48.1 percent. The Kurdistani chauvinist alliance obtained 25 percent of the votes and the list headed by US-installed puppet “prime-minister” Iyyad ‘Allawi received 13.8 percent of the votes.
By preliminary estimate, the Shi ‘ alliance headed by as-Sistani will receive about 131 seats in the puppet “parliament,” the Kurdish chauvinists will receive about 70 seats, and ‘Allawi’s clique will receive about 38 seats.
