Baghdad.

Mafkarat al-Islam correspondents find fraud in farcical election.

In order to provide its readers with coverage of the sham elections taking place in Iraq under US insistence on Sunday, Mafkarat al-Islam correspondents went out early Sunday to walk through the streets and lanes of Baghdad. During the day they documented numerous cases of fraud.

The correspondents found that the Iraqi Communist Party, a lackey organization of the US invaders, and the National Accord Party, which is led by puppet “prime minister” Iyyad ‘Allawi, hired groups of women, children, youths and unemployed persons to work for them. These people were trotted before television cameras several times on Sunday to claim that there was “heavy voter turnout” at the polling places.

Mafkarat al-Islam correspondents found that those hired hands also claimed that Iraqi puppet police and puppet national guardsmen were “at their best” helping voters get to the polls.

Along similar lines, Jalal Talibani’s Kurdish chauvinist party distributed money and medium-sized transistor radios to all who agreed to wander over to the polls and vote, in an effort to encourage Kurdish voters to support their election slate.

Mr. ‘Ali Nayif a resident of al-Karakh ath-Thani district in Baghdad said that in their local polling place everyone entering the building was asked to vote for a specific candidate. In some cases, he said, election workers would mark ballot form for the voter.

The second most senior Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad reported that he confirmed four cases of false votes within just five minutes in the polling station in Mahallat ash-Shaykh Ma‘ruf al-Karakhi. Members of Ahmad Chelebi’s Iraqi National Congress Party were bringing in non-Iraqi citizens, probably Iranians, and the party members would issue them false Iraqi citizenship certificates, which they would use to get into the polls where they would then vote for Chelebi’s party. One election observer who worked for the United Nations also observed such a case, the reporter noted, saying that he told a foreign news company “we have uncovered just four cases of fraud and we don’t know how many might have taken place that went unregistered.”

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondents noted that the US and puppet authorities had already designated certain specific satellite TV stations to cover the elections by conducting interviews with voters and officials. Those interviews were then distributed to all the other networks and news agencies. The officially designated satellite companies were al-‘Arabiyah Satellite Network, the Iraqi Qanat ash-Sharqiyah, the Iraqi government TV station, and the American CNN.

All the correspondents for Mafkarat al-Islam confirmed that they had challenged any Iraqi or American official or even any of the satellite networks to mention that this arrangement was a fact.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad’s al-Karradah district reported that that district was supposed to have 22,000 voters. In fact only 700 showed up, all of them followers of the parties running candidates. The al-Karradah district is known to be one of the biggest in Baghdad in terms of population density, and it is predominantly Christian.

The Zionist newspaper Ma‘ariv on Sunday published a picture of its correspondent for Arab affairs, Jaki Huji, who is of Iraqi descent but a citizen of “Israel” voting in the Iraqi election in an election office in Jordan. Though he was questioned at the polling place, he was allowed to vote in the Iraqi election.

US ambassador distributes money, allots seats in new Iraqi puppet government.

The Jordanian newspaper al-‘Arab al-Yawm reported Sunday that informed sources in the US embassy in Baghdad as saying the US ambassador John Negroponte distributed US$86,000 to political parties, movements, and individuals who took part in the American-backed election farce on Sunday. The money was supposed to cover the costs of their electioneering through posters and ads in the media, according to a source who had taken part as a candidate in the elections, the paper reported.

The source, who asked not to be identified, said that the US representative then distributed seats in the government to those parties and personalities according to the principle of allotments. The American ambassador allocated to the so-called “Iraqi list” led by US-installed puppet “prime minister” Iyyad ‘Allawi was 40 seats.

The allotment for the so-called “Iraqi coalition” led by ‘Abd al-‘Aziz al-Hakim, the head of the Shi‘i chauvinist so-called “Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI)” which had the blessing of pro-American Shi‘i religious authority ‘Ali as-Sistani was 30 seats.

Another 100 lists still remained and their seats would be allocated according to their influence.

The source told al-‘Arab al-Yawm that it appeared that Iyyad ‘Allawi would be America’s choice as “interim prime minister.” He said that there was worry that pro-Iranian candidates might receive too high a vote but that it was not excluded that the current puppet “minister of finance” ‘Adil ‘Abd al-Mahdi, or the Shi‘i scholar ash-Shahrastani, who are on the pro-Iranian list, might be selected to run the puppet government.

As-Sistani thanks Iraqis for voting, but, as an Iranian citizen, casts no vote himself.

Pro-American Shi‘i religious leader ‘Ali as-Sistani addressed the Iraqi people Sunday night to congratulate and thank them for taking part in the election. As-Sistani noted that he himself did not vote, due to the fact that he is not an Iraqi but an Iranian citizen. The election farce was an effort by the United States to throw a cover of “democracy” over their continued occupation of Iraq. As-Sistani, for his part, saw in the elections and the American occupation a chance for himself and his sectarian clerical group to assert their control over part of Iraq with the help and support of the American army.

Asked why the UN was not supervising the elections as-Safadi said, “basically, we just don’t observe elections or supervise them.”

As-Safadi confirmed that the UN would not be evaluating the elections, nor would it issue any ruling regarding their legitimacy. That would be left to the Iraqis, he indicated.

The Chaldean Patriarch in Baghdad, Emmanuel Delly, came out in support of the sham election farce being staged by the US occupation in Iraq on Sunday. Delly was quoted as saying that those who boycotted the “election” will “be the losers in the end.” He said that a boycott would not isolate the honest democratic elections which, he said, would go ahead now or in the future in order to build a free state.” The Patriarch, lining up with the American invaders, said, “As Patriarch, I cannot force anyone to vote; everyone is free with respect to that. But the best thing, for the children of the country, the church and Christianity, to vote,” he claimed, speaking in a telephone conversation with the Vatican network.

While most streets of the city were empty, crowds gathered on one of the city’s main thoroughfares, now nicknamed The Street of Death after the frequent Resistance attacks on US forces there. The crowds were certain, of course that no Resistance fighters would attack them, despite efforts by the western and stooge media to portray the patriots as bloodthirsty and indiscriminate.

Hamzah Hadi, one of the players said that he couldn’t let a holiday go by uselessly so he went with his friends to watch the games in the streets. The elections? “They are something I’m not concerned about,” Hadi said, adding, “so why should I stay home and watch news coverage about them?”
