Al-Qa’im.

Five US troops killed in two operations in al-Qa’im.

Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a US patrol in the area of al-Qa’im near the Syrian border on Thursday, killing several American troops and destroying a number of American military vehicles.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the city reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Resistance planted bombs near the US Base 22 by the phosphate works east of the city. One Humvee was totally destroyed in the attack and another was completely burned up. Four American troops were killed.

In another operation, an Iraqi Resistnace bomb exploded as a US column was passing along the main road in the Karbalah area of al-Qa’im, disabling a Humvee and killing one US soldier.

Al-Fallujah.

Individual Resistance fighters mount hit-and-run attacks on US troops in al-Fallujah.

There are persistent reports from al-Fallujah about continuous clashes on Thursday between US occupation troops and individual Iraqi Resistance fighters. Witnesses told the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam that the clashes were happening frequently in various areas of the city of al-Fallujah, and appeared to be quick hit and run attacks in which the fighters open fire with BKC machine guns.

The correspondent reported that most of the attacks are being carried out by individual Resistance fighters who refused to join the main body of the Resistance forces when they evacuated the southern part of the city on 23 January.

Iraqi Resistance fighters on Thursday abducted a lackey of the US occupation in the ‘Amiriyat al-Fallujah area, south of the city of al-Fallujah. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in the city reported eyewitnesses as saying that the man abducted appears to have had a unique relationship with the Americans, one of some importance.

In a report posted on Mafkarat al-Islam on Friday at 10:33pm Mecca time, the local correspondent noted that US forces backed up by puppet troops surrounded the area where the abduction took place on Thursday and continued searching for him all day Friday without finding any trace of their stooge.

Resistance fires incendiary rockets near as-Saqlawiyah.

Iraqi Resistance forces in as-Saqlawiyah, west of al-Fallujah, fired five incendiary rockets over the highway. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam said that the reason for the firing off of the missiles was still unknown, but was believed to be connected with clashes with American forces in the area.

Resistance attacks US command post in as-Saqlawiyah.

Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a US command post in the as-Saqlawiyah area, killing three US troops. Witnesses in the area said that the Resistance opened fire with BKC machine guns and then fired C5K rockets into the American position, destroying one US armored vehicle and disabling a second. Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the rockets only damaged the front part of the second armored vehicle.

Early morning explosion in northern al-Fallujah.

An explosion rocked the northern residential neighborhoods of al-Fallujah on Friday. Mafkarat al-Islam reported. It was unclear what the target of the blast was or what damage or casualties, if any, it caused. The blast took place at 6am Friday, local time, sending sparks flying according to witnesses.

Bodies of six puppet troops found in ar-Ramadi.

Iraqi puppet police discovered the bodies of six puppet troops in the city of ar-Ramadi on Friday. An officer in the puppet police told Agence France Presse (AFP) that the six corpses were found together with identity papers establishing who they were. The bullet ridden bodies had been dumped in a street.

On Thursday the bodies of four puppet troops were found; they too had been shot to death.

Resistance car bomb hits US checkpoint Thursday.

An Iraqi Resistance martyrdom attacker crashed a car bomb into a US checkpoint at the northern entrance to al-Fallujah on Thursday local eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that he was unable to ascertain the extent of US casualties and that the Americans made no announcement.

Resistance bombs blast US column near Hit.

Heavy Iraqi Resistance bombs exploded on the strategic route south of the al-Baghdadi area in the Hit region, west of Baghdad. Witnesses reported that the blasts destroyed an American Humvee, killing three US troops aboard it. American forces then encircled the Zawiyyah area and began to storm into houses indiscriminately.

US troops also stormed into houses along the Euphrates River. Among the houses they raided was the home of the governor or al-Anbar Province, Fassam al-Qu‘ud, and the home of the chief of the Bu Nimr tribe, Hatim ‘Abd ar-Razzaq al-Qu‘ud. Both are in the Zawiyyah area between Hit and ar-Ramadi.

American forces surround Hit as Resistance strikes at US base.

US forces encircled the city of Hit with tanks and other military vehicles on Thursday, closing all roads to the city and sealing it off. The city was still closed when the correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam there filed his report, posted at 10:05pm Friday night Mecca time.

The Americans plead with residents of Hit on Friday to “take responsibility” and drive out what it called “terrorists” ﾐ by which the invaders meant the Iraqi Resistance ﾐ and take part in the election farce scheduled to be held on Sunday, 30 January. The Hit correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US forces broadcast calls to that effect over loud speakers mounted on helicopters and on tanks that surround the city.

For their part, the Iraqi Resistance fired a steady barrage of rockets and mortars at US troop concentrations from various positions in the city. The Resistance poured Katyusha rockets and 120mm mortar rounds into the nearby US Hit military camp where American forces are based.

The Resistance also fired mortar rounds into the al-Baghdadi Secondary School east of the city of al-Baghdadi after the Resistance learned that the US had surreptitiously set up an election center there.

Hadithah.

Resistance bomb destroys US armored vehicle.

An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded as a US patrol made up of six various military vehicles passed near the palace area in the center of the village of Jubbah, 13km north of Hadithah, (west of Baghdad), at 11:40am Friday morning.

First Lieutenant Ahmad ‘Abd al-Ghani ar-Rawi of the Iraqi puppet forces told the correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast totally destroyed a US armored vehicle, killing at least five American troops aboard it. Other Americans were slow in coming to their rescue so all were consumed in fire, according to the witness. He said that the number of dead was five or six and that the US force was in the area to provide “security” for the American-backed election farce set for Sunday, 30 January with the aim of throwing a veneer of “democracy” over their occupation of the country.

Baghdad.

Mafkarat al-Islam surveys opinion in nine Iraqi Provinces: 93% of Iraqis think election is not fair and impartial; 87% say they won’t vote.

In an attempt to find out the real opinion of people in the street in Iraq regarding the election set to take place on Sunday, which has been rejected by the Iraqi Resistance who regard it as an attempt to put a “democratic” cover on the occupation, Mafkarat al-Islam correspondents carried out a survey in nine Iraqi provinces to canvass the opinions of citizens ﾐ Sunn and Shi‘i, Arab and Kurd, Christians, and Assyrians ﾐ regarding how honest the elections will be and whether they will take part in them or not.

The results of the survey came out sharply different from those reported in the Arab and international television stations and print media. Mafkarat al-Islam insisted that citizens who responded to the survey not reveal their names or be photographed, since correspondents made clear to editors that people were afraid of repercussions from the puppet authorities or from the occupation troops for any statement they might make. They feared they might be arrested if their names were used along with their opinions.

Mafkarat al-Islam surveyed 1,100 Iraqis ﾐ 100 citizens in the areas of ar-Ramadi, al-Fallujah, Hit, al-Hadithah, al-Qa’im; 170 citizens in Baghdad of Sunni, Shi‘i, Christian, and Kurdish backgrounds; 160 citizens in al-Basrah (including az-Zubayr, al-‘Ashshar, and al-Faw) of Shi‘i and Sunni background; 140 citizens in Mosul (including Tal‘afar, Ba‘shiqah, and ad-Dibs) of Arab, Kurdish, Christian and Assyrian background; 110 Sunni and Kurdish citizens in Salah ad-Din Province, including Samarra’, Tikrit, al-‘Ujah, and al-Bayji; 115 Shi‘i citizens in as-Samawah, followers of Muqtada as-Sadr ﾐ for they are the majority in that city; 100 Sunni, Shi‘i, and Kurdish citizens in Diyala Province east of Baghdad, including Ba ‘qubah, Mandali, al-Khalis, Shahraban and Abu Sayda; 100 citizens (Sunni, Shi‘i, and Assyrians) in al-Hillah, including a few Kurds living in the area of Babil, al-Iskandariyah, al-Mahawil, and al-Musayyib; 70 citizens, Shi‘i followers of as-Sistani, who constitute the majority in al-‘Amarah; 80 citizens in the ethnically complex area of Kirkuk were to poll surveyed Sunni, Shi‘i, Arabs, Turcomans, and Christians in the city of Kirkuk, and at-Ta’mim.

The survey showed that 93 percent of those questioned believed that the election was not impartial and that the victor would be a new “Iraqi Karzai” ﾐ a reference to the puppet ruler installed by the United States in Afghanistan. Some said that the victor would be the candidate who had a majority of the votes of the American Senate, CIA, and Zionist Mossad.

Only 7 percent believed that the elections would be impartial. Such respondents offered various reasons for their belief including what they described as the “Shi‘i majority rule” that they felt was prevailing in the country.

As to whether they would personally take part in the voting, 87 percent of Iraqis questioned said that they would not be going to the polls on Sunday, citing various reasons. Some said that they would not vote because they had no confidence in the elections, which they regarded as a farce. Some said they would not go because they were afraid of attacks on polling stations. Still others said that they did not care what the result would be because they were completely certain that the party running the political show at the present time is the American occupation, not the present or any future Iraqi government.

The remaining 13 percent said that they would take part in the voting, some saying that they were members of the political parties that were running in the elections, or said they had suffered under the Iraqi government before the US invasion.

Mafkarat al-Islam pledged to provide impartial coverage of the elections on Sunday, not siding either with the Resistance or the US-installed government, in an attempt to observe the extent of people’s participation at the polls.

In this connection, Mafkarat al-Islam reports that the US-installed government has issued an order to all reporters and correspondents of Arab and foreign media to base their coverage on press releases issued by the Press Office of the Iraqi puppet Council of Ministers. The puppet regime has threatened to call to account any journalist who reports anything running contrary to what the official Press Office announces, saying that such a journalist will be expelled from the polling place if he is an Iraqi and expelled from the country if he is not.

The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that all the journalists agreed to those conditions, signing a pledge to that effect as a condition for obtaining the right to cover the elections. Due to pressure on their reporters, Mafkarat al-Islam has decided to cover the elections in Iraq in 10 of the provinces out of the 13 in which it has correspondents. These are Baghdad, al-Anbar, Salah ad-Din, Diyala, Mosul, Kirkuk, al-Basrah, as-Samawah, al-Hillah, and al-‘Amarah.

US admits helicopter crashes southwest of Baghdad.

US forces admitted that a Kiowa helicopter had crashed southwest of Baghdad. Reuters reported that the craft, which usually carries a two-man crew, went down Friday afternoon. No further details were immediately available.

Followers of Chelebi and ‘Allawi brawl in the streets of Baghdad as local people tear down “election” posters.

Fist fights followed by shooting into the air broke out in Baghdad between followers of the so-called “national accord party” run by puppet “prime minister” Iyyad ‘Allawi and followers of the so-called “Iraqi national congress” loyal to convicted embezzler and long-time CIA agent Ahmad Chelebi. Chelebi was Washington’s favorite Iraqi before the invasion, but fell from favor and quickly became a scapegoat after America’s inability to quell the popular resistance of the Iraqi people became clear.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the street brawl broke out in the eastern part of the Baghdad district of al-Karradah after Fridy congregational prayer. The confrontation began when Chelebi supporters accused the ‘Allawi people of tearing up their election posters in the streets of the city. The sides exchanged insults and accusations of being lackeys and “patting the backs” of the Americans, as they put it. Local people gathered in disbelief to watch the scene as the two groups of stooges fell to blows. The brawling only ended when puppet police intervened to break up the fighting.

Asked about the Chelebi supporters’ accusations a puppet police officer told Mafkarat al-Islam, “neither of the sides tore down the other side’s posters, it was the citizens who have been ripping up everything to do with the elections. It’s gone so far that the puppet Council of Ministers has imposed penalties on anyone proven to have damaged any candidate’s posters.” The police officer added, “I don’t think it’s only Sunnis who are doing it either. The Shi‘ah followers of Muqtada as-Sadr and some other Shi‘i leaders who are opposed to the elections have been tearing them down too.”

Al-‘Amarah.

Iraqi Resistance attacks American convoy near al-‘Amarah early Friday afternoon.

Iraqi Resistance forces armed with rocket-propelled grenades attacked a US convoy of two Dania vehicles loaded with ballot boxes in the village of al-Majar al-Kabir near al-‘Amarah, south of Baghdad at 2:15pm Friday. The two vehicles and their cargoes were set ablaze and four Iraqi puppet troops were killed. Witnesses confirmed the attack and the numbers of casualties to a correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam who inspected the scene of the attack minutes after it took place.

At the time he filed his report at 2:25pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, the correspondent said that US forces and their Iraqi stooges were still encircling the attack zone. One officer in the Iraqi puppet forces claimed that the Resistance fighters who carried out the attack had been surrounded in a nearby house and that they would be captured.

Local people, strongly influenced by Shi‘i chauvinist prejudices preached by pro-American mullas, expressed disappointment at the ineffectiveness of the Iraqi puppet forces against the Resistance. They told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the Resistance attackers had withdrawn from the area already and were not holed up in the house that the puppet forces were surrounding.

The US is insisting on staging a sham “election” in Iraq with the aim of throwing a veneer of “democracy” over its occupation of the country.

Al-Basrah.

Resistance blows up election stations in al-Basrah area.

Iraqi Resistance fighters detonated bombs in the az-Zubayr area of al-Basrah, destroying two election centers. The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in Baghdad said that eyewitnesses reported that the two election centers were set up in schools in the az-Zubayr area, south of al-Basrah, the first in the ash-Shinqiti School in Mahallat ash-Shimal, and the second in the Wadi as-Suba‘ in Suq Sawwabi.
