Four more Marines KIA Wednesday in western Iraq
(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) Jan. 26, 2005- A search-and-rescue team has reached the site of the crash of a US Marine Corps helicopter in western Iraq.
The Marines say the chopper went down early Wednesday during a security operation.
A US military spokesman say there are casualties, but he hasn't provided any figures. But, ABCNews.com reports at least 31 died in the crash.
NBC News confirms more than 30 were killed, which would make it the single most deadly incident for US Marines in the entire Iraqi war.
NBC reports there were no survivors when the CH-53 Sea Stallion crashed. The militaryspokesman confirms there are casualties but doesn't know "what type or numbers yet."
The helicopter was carrying troops from the First Marine Division.
The military isn't commenting on the circumstances of the crash but has launched an investigation.
