Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Friday, 4 February 2005. Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice.
Friday, 4 February 2005.
Al-Fallujah.
Intermittent fighting in eastern part of al-Fallujah destroys two US vehicles.
In a dispatch posted at 9:05pm Mecca time Friday night, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Fallujah reported that intermittent armed clashes were taking place in the eastern neighborhoods of the city between US aggressor troops and the Iraqi Resistance. The correspondent said that the fighting had been raging, at time of writing, for four hours and that clouds of smoke were rising from various places where engagements had taken place. US aircraft had fired three rockets into the area.
Eyewitnesses in the nearby neighborhood of al-‘Askari east of the city told the correspondent by telephone that two US vehicles were on fire at the time of writing. The correspondent himself has been unable to get to the scene of the fighting because the area is under curfew and moving about is dangerous.
Baghdad.
Following death threats ‘from official quarters’, US troops gun down nephew of Sunni religious leader.
The Board of Muslim ‘Ulama’ [Scholars] on Friday accused the US occupation forces of killing the nephew of the Chairman of the board near Baghdad on Thursday.
Shaykh ‘Umar ar-Raghib, spokesman for the Board, told Agence France Presse (AFP) that the US army opened fire on the nephew of Shaykh Harith ad-Darri when he was driving his car with a friend near Abu Ghurayb, 20km west of Baghdad. Ar-Raghib added, “Mahmud Muzhir ad-Darri, who was in his forties, was coming from Khan Darri to Baghdad when US troops stationed on the highway bridge opened fire on his car. He was killed but his friend was unhurt.”
Shaykh Ad-Darri himself recently told the Egyptian newspaper al-Ahram that he had received threats, some of them “from official quarters” in connection with his opposition to the sham “election farce” held on 30 January and in general his rejection of the occupation. (See: “Sunni Religious leader has received ‘death threats from official quarters’.” in Iraqi Resistance Report: Monday, 24 January 2005.)
US admits to loss of three American soldiers in Iraq.
US military propaganda mouthpieces admitted on Friday that Iraqi Resistance forces attacked their troops in Bayji using hand grenades, killing one American soldier and wounding seven more. The Americans also admitted that two other US troops had been killed in action elsewhere in Iraq.
Resistance group says it killed 29 puppet guards dead in Abu Ghurayb attack.
The Iraqi Resistance group Army of the Partisans of the Sunnah issued a statement on an Islamic website Friday saying that it had carried out an attack in the Abu Ghurayb area in which 29 puppet so-called “Iraqi national guards” were killed and seven were detained. The statement said that they had been able to set four troop transports ablaze. The Resistance group said it inflicted the casualties when it attacked a “national guard” convoy made up of 50 individuals this week.
The statement concluded saying: “to the forces of the idolatrous guard [“al-haras al-wathani” ミ a play on the words “al-haras al-watani” “the national guard”]: the Crusader forces that you are defending will not rescue you from the grasp of the heroes. The Mujahideen are determined to wipe you out, one by one.”
Puppet regime in Baghdad receives first batch of helicopters donated by Jordanian government.
The US-installed puppet regime in Iraq on Friday received two US Hughey helicopters, as the first installment of support being provided to the regime by the government of Jordan. A communiqu issued by the puppet “Iraqi army” stated that the Government of Jordan had committed itself to give Iraq 16 of this type of helicopter in the course of the current year.
The Egyptian newspaper al-Jumhuriyah reported that the puppet army’s communiqu said that two batches of eight helicopters were to be sent from Jordan to the regime. All the aircraft are to be based in at-Taji, north of Baghdad. Observers note that support from fraternal Arab states for the occupation regime in Baghdad can be regarded as their acceptance of the supposed ‘legitimacy’ of the regime that was imposed in the course of the illegal American invasion and occupation of Iraq.
Al-Latifiyah.
Resistance ambush in al-Latifiyah leaves three US troops dead.
Iraqi Resistance forces fired shoulder-launched bazookas and pipe anti-personnel rocket launchers at a US foot patrol near the Shaykh Murad Mosque in al-Latifiyah after Friday congregational prayers Friday afternoon. Eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam’s correspondent that the American patrol consisted of more than 20 US soldiers, and the attack left three of them dead and four others severely wounded.
One Resistance fighter was martyred in the fighting, as he courageously tried to capture one of the four wounded US troops. The witnesses said that the US forces withdrew immediately from the scene of the attack, in fact, witnesses said, as soon as the shooting started the Americans began to flee and take cover behind the walls of the mosque, leaving eight of their comrades behind to face the Resistance.
After the battle, US forces came back in and surrounded the area, remaining there until the time when the correspondent filed his report (posted at 8:59pm Mecca time Friday night.) At that time, however, they had not managed to haul away their casualties, something that the Resistance fighters suggested might be an American attempt to lure them back into an ambush. The Resistance fighters, wary of a trap, pulled out of the area.
Diyala Province.
Four US Marines killed near Iranian border.
An Iraqi Resistance bomb exploded next to a US Marine column in the al-Laji’in area of the town of al-Mundhiriyah on the Iranian border in Diyala Province at 8:30am Friday, disabling a Humvee and killing four US Marines and wounding a fifth. Eyewitnesses reported that this was the sixth such attack this week in the area. The witnesses said that the Resistance fighters have recently been taking advantage of the lay of the land in the area to launch more attacks on the invader troops.
Fifteen Iranian would-be assassins captured by Iraqi Resistance.
Iraqi Resistance fighters on Thursday arrested 15 Iranians who slipped over the border at the al-Mundhiriyah crossing into Iraq illegally. Al-Mundhiriyah is located in the far east of Iraq in Diyala Province.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Iranians were found in possession of a number of names and pictures of a number of Sunni Muslim religious scholars and prominent personalities. They also had forged Iraqi identity documents in their possession.
The commander of a Resistance group told Mafkarat al-Islam that they were found with materials indicating that they were in contact with the pro-American collaborationist Shi‘i chauvinist Badr Brigades that invaded Iraq together with the US military in spring 2003.
The correspondent reported that although there was no definite word that the spies had been executed ミ the fate that befell spies who were captured on previous occasions ミ it was likely, he wrote, that they were indeed among the dead by now, inasmuch as directly incriminating materials were found on their persons.
Samarra’.
Six US troops, one woman journalist killed in Resistance attack.
Iraqi Resistance forces detonated a roadside bomb on Nisan Street in Samarra’ Friday morning. Eyewitnesses told the local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam that the blast destroyed one US armored vehicle that was part of an American military column made up of five various vehicles. Six American troops and one foreign woman journalist who was accompanying the soldiers were instantly killed in the bomb attack. The column was on what was supposed to be a routine patrol.
The correspondent reported that an officer in the Iraqi puppet police in the area said that the bomb was made of long-range heavy artillery shell casings and was planted on the side of Nisan Street. It went off as the US column was passing, leaving a crater in the road three meters (about 10 feet) deep.
Mosul.
US admits one American soldier killed near Mosul.
US forces on Friday admitted that an American soldier had been killed when a roadside bomb exploded south of Mosul.
Irbil.
US diplomats, Zionist agents suffer deadly attacks in Irbil, northern Iraq.
Three US diplomats, one Australian person and an Iraqi were killed on Thursday in Irbil Province in northern Iraq. The correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the incident took place at 3pm Thursday, Baghdad time when Resistance fighters, their faced covered, opened fire with Kalashnikov assault rifles on an American delegation as it left the Salah ad-Din Tourist Hotel in the center of the city.
The five persons were killed immediately, the correspondent said, and then US forces backed by Kurdish chauvinist Peshmergah gunmen sealed off the site of the attack and began a fruitless search for the Resistance attackers.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that the city of Irbil has recently seen an upsurge in attacks by the Ansar as-Sunnah Resistance organization targeting US forces and the Zionist Mossad, which has many personnel in the area. Most recently, the Ansar as-Sunnah was credited with killing 12 Zionists in the Shaqlawah Heights north of Irbil last week, the correspondent wrote. The Zionist agents were killed in an office of the Mossad that had been set up to help direct what was called the “Kurdish Dream of Independence Project.”
As-Samawah.
Resistance launches “days of hell” for Japanese aggressor troops.
Iraqi Resistance forces fired four Grad rockets into the Japanese occupation forces’ camp in as-Samawah at 7:40pm Friday night. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses as saying that clouds of smoke covered the camp and warning sirens wailed from inside the facility.
This was the first time that Grad rockets were fired into the Japanese aggressors’ camp due to the fact that it is difficult to fire that kind of weapon into that particular facility. The range of the Grad is less than 30km, while the territory for 100km around the Japanese aggressor camp is controlled by Shi‘i tribes with whom the invaders have cut deals to protect them against the Resistance. This makes it normally impossible to fire rockets from the necessarily close range.
A few days ago, however, the Iraqi Resistance in the area issued a statement in which it pledged to make the next few days hell for the Japanese invaders unless they pull out of the city. Friday’s rocket attack marks the actual beginning of those dark days for the Japanese who were expecting in vain that the people and tribes of as-Samawah would protect them from the wrath of Iraq.
Al-Kufah.
Muqtada as-Sadr calls for timetable for US withdrawal.
Shi‘i cleric Muqtada as-Sadr, who has bowed out of the Resistance struggle against the US aggressors, issued a call to his fellow Shi‘i leaders to strive for an American time table for a pull out of their occupation forces from Iraq.
Agence France Presse (AFP) reported that a spokesman for as-Sadr, Sayyid Hashim Abu Raghif told a Friday congregational prayer service in a mosque in al-Kufah that as-Sadr wrote, “I appeal to all the religious people and the political authorities that ran and took part in the elections to issue an official statement calling for a time table for the withdrawal of the occupation forces from Iraq.”
As-Sadr said in his letter that he did not take part in the elections but did not oppose them either, lest he be seen as a rebel against the Shi‘i religious authorities, but he refused to take part in the elections himself, he said, because he did not want to be a stooge. He said that the west is very proud to have held the elections, but asked who was responsible for the torrents of blood that flowed on election day.
