Wednesday, 22 December 2004.
Al-Fallujah ミ ar-Ramadi.
US cluster bombs al-Fallujah on Wednesday, Resistance responds with heavy rocket and mortar barrage on US camp. US forces disfigure body of Saudi youth.
US warplanes on Wednesday bombed several parts of al-Fallujah with internationally-banned cluster bombs, Mafkarat al-Islam reported in a dispatch posted at 10:25pm Mecca time Wednesday night.
American aircraft bombed specific areas in the neighborhoods of al-‘Askari, al-Jawlan, ash-Shuhada’, al-Jubayl, and the industrial zone with more than 140 container bombs, each full of hundreds of anti-personnel cluster bombs. Eywitnesses reported that the cluster bombing stopped at 3pm local time, after Resistance forces mounted their own intense rocket barrages on the American camp in the agricultural area northeast of the city. More than 61 mortar rounds of various calibers slammed into that American facility, as did 14 Grad rockets. The Resistance bombardment sent clouds of thick smoke rising into the sky over the American facility, indicating that direct hits had been scored on US equipment.
Although US aircraft stopped dropping containers of cluster bombs, the American planes continued to prowl the skies over the city and were still doing so at the time the correspondent filed this report.
Meanwhile, Resistance fighters discovered the body of a youth, believed to be a Saudi, in the al-Wahdah neighborhood. The body had been disfigured by occupation forces, who cut of his hands, feet and genetalia, which were put in his mouth ミ an extreme case of abuse of a body. The Resistance fighters took the body away and gave him a proper funeral in the southern part of al-Fallujah, which remains completely under Resistance control.
US recaptures 130 puppet troops who fled from al-Fallujah, but 90 others get away.
Reports from al-Fallujah say that about 130 members of the puppet so-called “Iraqi national guard” fled from the battle around al-Fallujah on Wednesday morning. Eyewitnesses told Mafkarat al-Islam that the Americans were able to surround and then capture the guards who were fleeing from al-Fallujah. They were imprisoned in the US military camp in the agricultural zone northeast of the city.
Meanwhile, 90 puppet “national guard” troops succeeded in fleeing from the al-Bu ‘Irrin gardens after about 100 of the guards were killed in the gardens during the night. With the help of local people the guards changed out of their uniforms and into civilian clothes. Ninety succeeded in escaping in this way.
Puppet commander: the Resistance fighters “are like water.”
A high-ranking official in the puppet “national guard” in Abu Ghurayb, Isma‘il Fayyad, told a correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam, “we made a big mistake when we told the refugee families that they would be returning to al-Fallujah and that they could go home. I think now that the battle has begun all over again in al-Fallujah, or that history has taken us back to the first day of the battle once again.” Fayyad added, “they i.e., the Resistance are like water, as soon as you grab hold of them, they slip from your hands.”
Looking for a way out: US again appeals to al-Fallujah police to take over al-Fallujah, but are rebuffed.
Now that everything has gone haywire for US forces around al-Fallujah, the Americans have made a second appeal, through an intermediary, to the chief of police of al-Fallujah, Sabir al-Jannabi to go in and take over the city so as to save face for them.
But al-Jannabi and his aides rejected this second American plea. Al-Jannabi said, “I’m eating bread and onions, but this is the bounty of God, and I would not go back to the police if they fed me honey.”
About 10 days previous, the US had asked the puppet police in Baghdad to go to al-Fallujah and take command, but the Baghdad puppet police refused to go, fearing that when the residents of al-Fallujah got home and saw that the Americans had so destroyed their belongings, homes, and city, that they would take out their rage on the puppet police.
Then about four days ago, the Americans asked the police in ar-Ramadi, near al-Fallujah, to go to al-Fallujah and take over, but the ar-Ramadi police also refused, but for different reasons than those of the Baghdad police. The police of ar-Ramadi are mostly local people whose sympathies lie with the Iraqi Resistance.
Resistance knocks out US supply train in ar-Ramadi, seizing valuable weapons.
Iraqi Resistance forces detonated multiple bombs under the tracks of a supply train hauling provisions for US troops west of ar-Ramadi. After the initial bombing, that destroyed the seven cars of the train, the Resistance then attacked to wipe out the remaining Americans who had not been killed by the bombs.
The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that 42 American troops were killed in the attack. Resistance fighters also seized valuable weapons and ammunition that had been packed aboard three of the train cars. In accordance with a communiqu issued by the Firs Army of Muhammad Resistance organization, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported that no Resistance fighters were killed in the attack, though one Iraqi driver was killed.
Resistance car bombing targets US troops in al-Karmah early Wednesday.
An Iraqi Resistance car bomb exploded under US forces on Ibrahim ibn ‘Ali Street in the al-Karmah area at 6am Wednesday, cutting that road. The extent of casualties were still unclear Wednesday night.
Al-Qa’im.
Iraqi Resistance forces attacked a US column made up of 13 vehicles, including tanks, armored vehicles, and Humvees, near the al-‘Ubaydi village east of al-Qa’im on the Syrian border, 420km west of Baghdad. The fighting lasted from 1pm Wednesday until 2:10pm and left 72 Americans dead, including a number of military commanders who were heading for the US al-Asad base east of al-Qa’im. They had performed the task of following up on the US forces in the base at the Customs area in al-Qa’im. A total of nine US commanding officers were killed.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent reported eyewitnesses as saying that the Restance fighters who attacked the US column numbered 35 men, armed with RPG7s, C5Ks and SPG9s, as well as automatic weapons and light and medium weapons. Seven of the Resistance fighters were martyred in the fighting. Eyewitnesses said that the dead Resistnace fighters included four Iraqis and three fraternal Arab volunteers ミ one Kuwaiti, one Egyptian, and one Algerian.
The Resistance detachment determined the place where they would attack with great precision, allowing them to encircle and cut off the US column, which they had been observing for a long time. The Resistance attacked when the Americans entered a depression with the Resistance fighters in position on commanding heights. The Resistance launched their attack by destroying the tank at the head of the column and the armored vehicle at the rear, trapping the remaining vehicles in the middle. They then launched their attack on the column in force, pounding it as it was trapped, virtually in a hole and surrounded on all sides.
Hit.
American helicopter downed on Wednesday, two other American helicopters run into each other and crash Tuesday.
Two US helicopters collided with each other and crashed over an area between Hit and Baghdad on Tuesday according to eyewitnesses who reported what they saw to Mafkarat al-Islam. They said that two American Apache helicopters collided on Tuesday afternoon.
A third US Apache helicopter was shot down over the az-Zawiyah area, east of Hit at about 12 noon on Wednesday, and according to the eyewitnesses, US forces rushed to accuse the al-Bu Namir tribe that lives in the area of az-Zawiyah of being responsible for the crash of the US aircraft. American troops arrested the Shaykh of the al-Bu Namir tribe, Khallas al-Qa‘‘ud along with his two sons Muhammad and Ziyad. Their arrest followed that of the Shaykh’s brother, Sattam al- Qa‘‘ud on charges of giving financial support to the Iraqi Resistance.
Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Wednesday’s attack left US troops dead. Az-Zawiyah is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Euphrates River. It is under the administration of the city of Hit.
Baghdad.
Resistance totally demolishes new US headquarters in ar-Ridwaniyah.
Iraqi Resistance forces on Wednesday afternoon struck a painful blow at US efforts to strengthen their hold on Baghdad’s ar-Ridwaniyah section. A correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that US occupation troops had taken over a house in the Zawbi‘ area of ar-Ridwaniyah, using it as a little base and apparently intent upon turning it into a major headquarters in the area.
Therefore, at 4:45pm Wednesday, Iraqi Resistance forces fired four Grad rockets into the house, setting off a massive explosion that totally razed the building and killed all inside. According to eyewitnesses there were 14 US troops inside at the time. They had come in three civilian cars and two armored vehicles. Although the house was small enough that one rocket would have been enough to destroy it, the Resistance used four to make sure the job would be done thoroughly. When the correspondent took down the story at 9:30pm Wednesday night local time, the ruins of the building were still in flame.
Attacks in Abu Ghurayb.
Iraqi Resistance forces firing BKC machine guns and other automatic weapons attacked a joint US-puppet “national guard” patrol on az-Zaytun Street in Abu Ghurayb at about 7:30am Wednesday, killing eight US troops and six puppet guards. American profiteer contractor drops $325 million deal in occupied Iraq because “security costs” made it unprofitable.
A major US contractor profiteer has dropped out of the multibillion-dollar effort to suck money from construction projects in occupied Iraq, according to a report carried on Wednesday by the Los Angeles Times newspaper. The company’s decision to forego millions of dollars out of security fears was a major success in the Resistance effort to protect Iraq’s independence and resources.
Contrack International, the leader of a partnership that won one of 12 major reconstruction contracts awarded this year, cited skyrocketing security costs in reaching a decision with the US government last month to terminate work in Iraq.
“We reached a point where our costs were getting to be prohibitive,” said Karim Camel-Toueg, president of Arlington, Virginia, USA-based Contrack, which had won a $325 million award to “rebuild” Iraq’s shattered transportation system in the American way.
While a few companies and nonprofit groups have pulled out of contracts in Iraq because of security concerns, Contrack's is by far the largest to be canceled to date, US officials admitted. The move has led to fears in US imperial circles that the rising tide of the Iraqi Resistance could prompt other companies to consider pulling out, or discourage others from seeking work in Iraq, further crippling the American occupation effort.
US colonial officials claimed that the termination of Contrack’s contract, which was not previously disclosed, would not hamper their efforts. They said they were planning to put the contract up for rebidding.

Mosul.
Puppet officials impose death-threat curfew on Mosul after Resistance bomb attack.
The puppet governor of Mosul, Muhammad ash-Shaykhi, held a press conference in the governorate building in the city at about 10am Wednesday where he announced that all border entrances and exits to the city had been closed. The five bridges linking the east, west, and southern parts of the city have been closed. The guards on the border with Syria have been strengthened. The puppet governor added that anyone breaking the curfew of trying to get out of the city would be shot and that martial law would be imposed in totality and at its most extreme.
He said that puppet police and “national guards” had encircled the agricultural area and the brush area north of the city and that they had searched those districts, but found nothing. He said, however, that he had intelligence information confirming that armed groups were behind the Resistance attack.
The Jaysh Ansar as-Sunnah (Army of the Partisans of the Sunnah) Resistance organization issued another communiqu confirming their earlier claim of responsibility for the attack and promising more.
The puppet official disclosed that the truck used in the Resistance bombing of the US base on Tuesday had been stolen from a government bureau in Mosul several days before the attack.
The statements by the puppet governor and by the Jaysh Ansar as-Sunnah Resistance organization confirmed what Mafkarat al-Islam had reported about the blast on 21 December (See the Iraqi Resistance Report for 21 December 2004.) They also contradicted claims made by US sources and published on various internet news sites that attributed the attack to rockets or to a martyrdom bomber on foot. Neither such attacks would have produced the type of destruction wrought to the solid concrete building that was totally razed on Tuesday when a martyrdom fighter drove a 12-ton Mercedes truck loaded with explosives into the building and blew it up.
Students protest American mass arrests in Mosul.
About 400 Iraqi Students demonstrated in Mosul on Tuesday against the American arrest of civilians and against American raids on homes and mosques.
