Al-Fallujah.
Resistance pounds US positions around al-Fallujah with highly accurate rocket strikes.
In a dispatch posted at 10:20pm Sunday night Mecca time, the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in the al-Azraqiyah area west of al-Fallujah reported that Iraqi Resistance forces had bombarded US troops in the agricultural area north of al-Fallujah, the as-Sakani neighborhood, and the area around the railroad station with at least 15 Grad rockets around sunset on Sunday. The rockets appear to have struck their targets because they sent flame and smoke rising into the sky. Resistance targeting in general was highly accurate on Sunday, suggesting that the fighters were able to infiltrate US areas to get precise bearings of targets during the night or at any rate in advance.
US forces in al-Fallujah now find themselves besieged by Resistance fighters.
The developments surrounding the current American siege of al-Fallujah are continuing to develop along the lines followed by the US when it gave up its first siege of the city in April, Mafkarat al-Islam reported in a dispatch posted Sunday night at 9:35pm Mecca time. As was the case in April, the US besiegers are increasingly themselves encircled and besieged by the Iraqi Resistance outside the city.
The US forces have been caught in an increasingly tight siege mounted by Resistance forces. On Sunday Mafkarat al-Islam reported that in recent days the Resistance has succeeded in closing all routes to the nearest American base in al-Habbaniyah, not only the dirt roads and paths through fields but the main highway as well, preventing the Americans from evacuating even one American military vehicle from al-Fallujah.
On earlier days, the Resistance had left routes open in order to encourage the Americans’ retreat, allowing them to pull about half their forces out of the city area. Then the Resistance moved in to obstruct the roads, making them extremely dangerous to travel, and effectively cutting off supplies of fuel and food to the Americans in city and withdrawal of US troops from the city and its environs. As a result the intensity of fighting in the south has diminished over all and US forces in the northern part of the city have been the targets of numerous ambushes.
On Sunday an American attempt to evacuate a unit to al-Habbaniyah failed, in spite of the air support the effort enjoyed. Resistance forces blocked the exit of the column made up of 35 military vehicles. The Resistance destroyed three of them, the blazing hulks of which the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent personally saw. After encountering that obstruction, the American column fell back to the city as US aircraft began bombing that section of al-Fallujah at about 10:15am.
The US column remained trapped in an area no larger than 250 square meters from 9:30am until 12 noon.
In addition to the attacks mounted by the Resistance on US forces outside al-Fallujah, the Americans within the city continue to be the target of unceasing ambushes and mortar and rocket bombardment.
Hard fighting in al-Fallujah ends with US troops driven back behind the highway.
Fierce fighting raged in the ash-Shuhada’ and al-Jubayl neighborhoods of southern al-Fallujah Sunday morning, but finally US forces were forced to fall back to behind the highway east of the city.
According to Mafkarat al-Islam the fighting broke out at about 8:15am Sunday and lasted until 9:30am. US units came from the east of the city and drove towards the south, but Resistance forces stood up to them. Fire was exchanged and the US troops, despite the air support they enjoyed, were unable to advance any further. The Resistance, in fact, forced them to withdraw to beyond the east of al-Fallujah. US forces east of the city were also observed falling back to behind the highway after coming under intermittent Resistance fire. Resistance fire was noticeable for its accuracy in hitting US vehicles.
Resistance fighters in groups of four to eight men launched surprise attacks on the US troops in the areas of the city where the Resistance is not in control, helping to force the Americans to withdraw to the relative safety they enjoy behind the highway.
The concentration of US troops east of al-Fallujah has decreased by 25 percent, Mafkarat al-Islam reports, many of the troops from there having been sent to the north of the city where the US still retains a presence.
Meanwhile in a dispatch posted at 7:55pm Sunday night Mecca time Mafkarat al-Islam reported that there were more than 35 operations inside al-Fallujah on Sunday. Some of these were in the form of mines that the Resistance planted that for the most part blew up under Iraqi puppet “national guard” forces, since the Americans push them to the front. Other Resistance attacks took the form of surprise ambushes that mostly targeted the Americans.
On Saturday, six puppet “national guard” troops were killed when they were robbing a house in the al-Jumhuriyah neighborhood. They were gunned down by the Resistance as they came out of the house with their loot.
Resistance rocket attacks on US forces in al-Fallujah area Sunday morning.
Iraqi Resistance forces bombarded large US troop concentrations near the electric power station in the as-Sakani neighborhood Sunday morning with five Grad rockets. The rockets hit their targets, sending thick smoke rising into the air.
Resistance forces also fired three rockets from the south at US troop concentrations located in eastern al-Fallujah, inflicting unspecified losses on the Americans.
Alternative website shows photographs from al-Fallujah.
A US citizen has put up a website at the url, www.fallujahinpictures.com where he is posting pictures that contrast with the image presented by the US military and its “embedded” propagandist reporters. Showing the suffering of American troops and the Iraqi population, the website stands in contrast to the official American position that the city has witnessed “heroic American victories,” while largely concealing even the suffering of the US troops, to say nothing of that of their Iraqi victims. The American Washington Post newspaper reported that the site has received thousands of visitors. The website also features “hate mail” from American visitors who violently object to accurate images of the casualties of war being published.
