Al-Fallujah.
The Situation in al-Fallujah as of Wednesday afternoon.
The Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in al-Fallujah reported in a dispatch posted at 3:50pm Mecca time Wednesday afternoon that battles between Resistance forces and US Marines were under way on four axes around the city.
One axis is in the south in the area of the industrial zone and the neighborhoods of ash-Shuhada’ and al-Jubayl.
A second is to the east in the al-‘Askari neighborhood.
The third axis is to the northwest in the al-Jawlan neighborhood.
The fourth axis along which there is fighting is in the center of the city in the al-Wahdah neighborhood, which Resistance fighters seized back from US invaders on Tuesday.
The Resistance appears to be fighting along the eastern axis in al-‘Askari, the northwest axis in al-Jawlan, and in the center in al-Wahdah in an attempt to reduce US pressure on the south of al-Fallujah, which the Americans have not yet been able to seriously penetrate since beginning their offensive several weeks ago. They are also evidently trying to split up the US attacking forces where they can be dealt with separately. The Americans find their presence in the center of the city to be dangerous for them, now that the Resistance dominates al-Wahdah again.
The correspondent reported that he heard for the first time in 10 days the sounds of fighting in the al-Jaghifi neighborhood, but the detailed information on the nature of that combat is unavailable. At the time of writing, the correspondent said that the sounds of battle there had fallen silent 10 minutes previous, but then resumed as he started writing.
Meanwhile, Resistance forces have fallen back from the head of the industrial zone to the east, militarily a “dead zone,” or sharp corner where the Resistance was exposed to attack by the invader troops from three directions - east, north and south - and where movement from neighboring areas is difficult. This made it reasonable for the Resistance to fall back from the small area to more defensible positions. But then the Resistance came back to attack the area and the US forces retreated. It appears, however, that the Resistance has no desire to try to hold the little area which would only invite many American attacks on their forces.
Overall, the situation in the city remains as it has been for some days - with the Resistance controlling about 60 percent of the city, and the US forces present in the rest. The American presence even there, however, is not stable or consolidated, however, as Resistance attacks on the Americans there are frequent.
For third day, US bans as-Saqlawiyah residents from collecting bodies in al-Fallujah.
A correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported on Wednesday that for the third straight day US forces have refused to let the people of as-Saqlawiyah enter the nearby city of al-Fallujah to collect the bodies of people killed and lying in the streets there for burial in the cemetery located between the two towns. Last week US forces had supervised repeated trips by as-Saqlawiyah residents into al-Fallujah for just this purpose.
Now the US forces are saying that the group of as-Saqlawiyah residents who had been undertaking the work are not to be allowed into al-Fallujah. One of the US military commanders told the people that “we are not going to let you enter al-Fallujah to spread criminals around there.” By “criminals” he was apparently referring to Resistance fighters.
Mafkarat al-Islam’s correspondent said that the American ban actually reflects the situation in the al-Jawlan neighborhood of northwestern al-Fallujah, the main entry way into the city, where the Resistance now has a strong presence after breakthroughs by Resistance fighters through US siege lines into the city.
Tuesday bombardments in and around al-Fallujah.
On Tuesday Iraqi Resistance forces fired 22 Grad and Tariq rockets at concentrations of US troops in the al-Jawlan neighborhood in the northwest of the al-Fallujah and to the south of the city, particularly the area that faces the industrial zone, according to the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent in that area. Also hit by the bombardments were US forces concentrated around the al-‘Askari neighborhood in the east of the city.
The correspondent reported that the Resistance fired more than 28 Tariq and Grad rockets at US concentrations in areas outside the city. Those barrages included the use of some unconventional warheads. Three unconventional rockets were fired at US troops gathered in the al-Bu ‘Irin area west of al-Fallujah.
