A correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported Sunday that after the cease-fire agreement in an-Najaf, dozens of Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters loyal to Shi‘i religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr, have moved on to areas in the predominantly Sunni province of al-Anbar in western part of Iraq (where al-Fallujah and ar-Ramadi are located) and to the area of Samarra’ and other largely Sunni regions.� The correspondent writes that the aim behind the move is for the fighters to study the fighting techniques and to train on various types of weapons being used by the predominantly Sunni Resistance fighters in those areas of the country.
