GAZA, April 20, 2004 (IPC + WAFA)-- 57% of the Germans believe that Israel is dealing with the Palestinians the same way the Nazis dealt with the Jews during World War II, a recent poll published by a German newspaper revealed.
The Die Zeit newspaper added that 38% of those polled thought it was better for the Jews to leave the Middle East, as 79% others considered the Israelis as an ‘Occupation Power’ having nothing to look for in Palestine.
Also, less than 50% of the polled believed they were irresponsible for what happened to the Jews during the Nazi regime in Germany, while 60% others strongly criticized Israel's actions.
WAFA News Agency reported that the poll published by the German paper confirmed with a public opinion poll that was conducted in the wake of a letter sent by the commander of the German Special Forces, Brigadier General Reinhard Guenzel to the German parliament member, Martin Hohman, saying, ”be confident that you expressed the opinion of the majority in our country.”
The high-ranking German officer was referring to statements made by the MP Hohman last October, in which he made clear, ”there is no fundamental difference between the crimes perpetrated by the Jewish communist party members during the ‘October revolution’ in Russia and those crimes perpetrated by the Germans during World War II.”
Hohman added in his letter, “those who label the Germans as a criminal nation can regard the Jews the same.”
The above mentioned poll also revealed that half of the Germans, who have been polled, supported Hohman’s remarks, including 40% in Western Germany and 28% in Eastern Germany.
