Israeli Team to Help ID Bodies in Madrid

JERUSALEM - Three Israeli pathologists will assist the Spanish government in identifying bodies from the terrorist bombings in Madrid, the team leader said Thursday.

More than 190 people were killed and 1,200 injured when 10 bombs tore through trains and stations along a commuter line at the height of Madrid's morning rush hour. Officials blamed Basque separatists for the worst terrorist attack in Spanish history.

Dr. Rikardo Nachman and two other Spanish-speaking pathologists from the Israel Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv will fly to Madrid on Friday. The Spanish government requested the Israeli help, Nachman said.

"Unfortunately, Israel leads the list of countries with experience in this field," he said. "I myself have had considerable experience in classifying body parts after terror attacks."

During 41 months of Palestinian-Israeli violence, more than 450 Israelis have been killed in suicide bomb attacks.
