Italian helicopter pilots refuse to go to Iraq.

The Italian media report that five Italian military helicopter pilots have refused to deploy to Iraq and have been charged with mutiny.

The newspaper Corriere dela Sera reported that it had been originally expected that the pilots would join an Italian division with a strength of 3,000 men last December but they refused to leave Italy, saying that they might be exposed to danger there.

Military officials began an internal investigation and referred the matter to the general procuratorate, which is considering preferring charges of mutiny against the soldiers. Soldiers who refuse to comply with orders can face prison of up to three years
