Sept. 11 Plotters Aimed to
Spark "Clash of Civilizations"

TEHRAN -- A U.S. presidential candidate in the 2000 election, Lyndon H.
LaRouche, who is also a Democractic presidential pre-candidate in 2004,
recently made some revelations about the September 11 incidents.

Following those revelations, an associate of LaRouche's political movement
for the past 30 years, Muriel Mirak-Weissbach, talked to the TEHRAN TIMES
in an exclusive interview about the September 11 incidents.

Mirak-Weissbach is a member of the editorial board of Executive
Intelligence Review (E.I.R.), a weekly published in Washington, D.C., and
distributed internationally.

The following is the complete text of her statements about who was behind
the attacks on New York and Washington on September 11.

In order to evaluate the impact of the dramatic events of September 11, on
the Persian Gulf and Asia, we must have clarity regarding what happened on
that day. It was not a terrorist attack, but an attempted military coup
d'etat against the government, planned, organized, and carried out in the
United States, by "rogue" elements of the U.S. military and intelligence.

The strategic aim of the coup, was to force the Bush Administration to
back Ariel Sharon and the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) in a war against the
Palestinians, and the Arab and Islamic world, more broadly, with military
aggression against Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and/or Iran. This war was to
unleash global "clash of civilizations," a permanent religious conflict
engulfing all of Eurasia, and pitting Islamic populations against
non-Islamic. The underlying motivation for the attempted coup, was the
realization, on the part of ruling financial oligarchical circles, that
their entire financial-monetary-economic system and structures, were
doomed to collapse. They saw the emergence of an alternative system, in
agreements among Russia, India and China, and potentially all of Eurasia,
which they perceived as a threat.

Rather than accept a viable alternative, in the form on a new, reformed
system, they preferred to seek to maintain political power, through sheer
military prowess, war and devastation.

This, in a nutshell, is the analysis which Lyndon LaRouche, the founder
and contributing editor of my magazine, E.I.R., began to issue on that
very day, Sept.11, as the terrible events were unfolding. LaRouche, who
was being interviewed live on a Utah-based radio talk show, between 9.00
and 11:00 a.m., east coast time, presented this concept, which subsequent
developments have confirmed fully. LaRouche also noted in that broadcast,
that probably Osama bin Laden, would be held responsible for the attacks,
and, on that basis, the clash of civilizations would be unleashed. His
remarks at the time have become an integral part of the ensuing
developments, in the U.S. as well as worldwide.

There is no doubt that the attacks on September 11, were an attempted coup
d'etat. Considering the extraordinarily high level of coordination of the
four airplanes involved, the highly professional skills displayed by the
pilots, the nature of the targets, especially the Pentagon and White
House, and the failure, or sabotage of fundamental security measures, the
operation must have been planned at high levels of the military and
intelligence.

The movements of President Bush, his public statements, as well as
information made available by members of the government itself in the
following days, makes clear that we are dealing with an attempted coup.

During the first hours of the attack, the U.S. government apparently moved
back and forth between two hypotheses: that of a coup, and that of a
terrorist attack. President Bush's first public statement spoke of what
"appeared" to be a terrorist attack. As later reported, Bush was to leave
Florida for Washington, but, following indications that the perpetrators
may have had access to codes of Air Force One and the White House, plans
for his security were changed. Vice President Cheney and National Security
Council advisor Condoleezza Rice were taken to the White House's
underground bunker. The Capital was evacuated, as were, successively, the
State Department, the World Bank, the Department of Justice, and other
federal buildings.

Bush was flown to Barksdale, Louisiana military base, where he issued
another statement, announcing he had declared a state of highest alert,
and taken measures to ensure the continuity of government. He also
indicated he had contact with all his government members, as well as
foreign heads of state. He did not speak of terrorism.

Bush then (at 1:47 p.m.) left Barksdale, and later landed at Offutt,
Nebraska, the military base which is the seat of the U.S. Strategic
Command, the command center for the nuclear arsenal. The U.S.
thermonuclear security alert, had gone up automatically, especially on the
basis of the attack against the Pentagon. At some point, not clearly
identified in time, Russian President Vladimir Putin established contact
with Bush, and assured him of his understanding and support. Putin
announced that he would de-escalate the military alert status of Russia
(which had also gone up automatically after the attack on the Pentagon).
Putin's de-escalation was an act which Bush on numerous occasions later
emphasized as being crucial.

Then, sometime before 8:00 p.m., a decision was made by the U.S.
government, to target Osma bin Laden and Afghanistan for bombing. Bush
announced that the country was at war, and that he would start, and win he
"war against terrorism." There was no shred of evidence pointing to Bin
Laden's networks. In fact, to the present day, there has been none
presented. However, it is a well-documented fact that the Afghan-based
Taleban outlaw regime, has been the source and motor force for
drug-running, weapons-trafficking and terrorism throughout the region.
They constituted particularly a security threat to Russia and were being
financed and supported by some networks in the United States. After the
attacks of September 11, after Putin's intervention which temporarily
stalled the coup, a new agreement was apparently struck, whereby the
Taleban and Bin Laden networks would be targeted, instead of the real
perpetrators.

LaRouche gave his imitation of what the reasoning was: "Okay. The American
people are going to demand we go after somebody. We can't go after
Zbigniew Brzezinski. We can't shoot Brzezinski. We can shoot the Taleban,
because we don't like them. We can shoot Osama Bin Laden, because he's no
good. The Taleban have shown themselves to be very evil people we don't
like. So let's bomb them."

But if Bin Laden did not do it, who did?

The aim of the coup attempt was to force Washington to back the IDF in its
war plans, thus sparking the clash of civilizations. So far, this has been
blocked, but not defeated. The continuing coup process is visible in the
escalating fights in Washington precisely round this issue, where we have
been seeing figures like Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz and others calling
for bombs on Baghdad, while cooler heads have been saying no. The State of
the Union speech delivered by Bush on January 29, marked an extremely
dangerous shift, and showed the extent to which the coup faction has been
gaining the upper hand. Bush was not part of the coup, but his policy
direction is being increasingly shaped by the coup faction's pressures.
One must keep in mind, that the coup plotters have not been identified,
much less neutralized. This means, those in the administration who know
that it was a coup attempt, are terrified, that something worse could
happen.
