On les appelle les "Bush-haters". Ils ont leurs chantres, leurs best-sellers, leurs sites Internet, leur humour, leurs frustrations. Pourquoi tant de haine ?
C'est bien simple, elle ne le supporte pas. Le son de sa voix, le regard qu'il pose sur vous, et jusqu'à la façon dont il marche l'exaspèrent. La mettent hors d'elle, même, par moments. Les 87 printemps de cette respectable Américaine n'ont en rien émoussé sa capacité d'indignation et, avec un président comme celui-là, elle a de quoi faire. La vieille dame s'ouvre d'ailleurs souvent à son fils de la violence de ses sentiments à l'égard de George W. Bush : "Mais dis-moi, comment peux-tu travailler avec ce type ?"
Secrètement, le fils, qui vit à Washington, boit du petit lait. Sénateur, c'est un des poids lourds du Parti démocrate. Comme tous les démocrates américains, depuis l'élection présidentielle de novembre 2000, il souffre. Mais comme tous les démocrates du Congrès, depuis le 11 septembre 2001, il souffre en silence. Que sa chère maman soit venue grossir les rangs des Bush-haters (littéralement, ceux qui ont la haine de Bush), une tribu en constante expansion, n'est pas forcément pour lui déplaire, même si, par prudence, on taira son nom.
On trouve de tout dans la tribu des Bush-haters, des mamans de sénateurs, des artistes, des journalistes de renom qui se dévoilent comme d'autres font leur coming-out, en se débarrassant d'un grand poids, et des fous dangereux. Cet hiver, l'organisation MoveOn.org a organisé le concours du meilleur clip télévisé anti-Bush, une compétition baptisée "Bush in 30 seconds". Les œuvres des quatorze finalistes peuvent être vues sur www.bushin30seconds.org, le gagnant devait être désigné au cours d'une cérémonie publique à New York le 12 janvier. Grosse participation, du beau travail - comme le mini-film intitulé Ne laissons aucun milliardaire sur le bord du chemin, allusion au slogan électoral de Bush "Ne laissons aucun enfant au bord du chemin" - et du moins beau, comme les deux clips, de deux auteurs différents, qui comparaient Bush à Hitler. Ceux-là n'ont, bien sûr, pas été retenus, mais ont provoqué la colère de plusieurs organisations juives et des dirigeants du Parti républicain.
