Y2K, Is It Still On? Really?
While many banks, power companies, and government agencies are claiming that they have the problems fixed, is it true that somehow Y2K has gone away? If there is no problem, why did the U.S. National Guard spend a fortune to take out a full-page advertisement in USA Today with an eight-inch question mark in red and two inch letters that say, "What Can You Expect At Midnight, December 31, 1999?" The article says a number of revealing things and was placed in the April 23, 1999, edition of the national newspaper mentioned above. In part, the giant article states, "As the millennium draws closer; America's National Guard will meet the challenges of Y2K with the professionalism and devotion America expects of us....We'll be there to answer the call of our country and communities; today, at midnight on December 31, 1999, and into the next millennium." (9) We must understand that this expensive article filled with sweet words actually presents to us the prospect of martial law!
