Anti-Taliban operations in Helmand
HELMAND (AZZAM):
Mujahideen fighters have killed 5 Afghan troops and an American driver working for an NGO in the Helamd province.
The incident is thought to have taken place a few days ago although exact dates are unclear.
In response to the deaths, 150 Afghan troops have started a large scale operation to hunt down the mujahideen in the region.
US warplanes have aided the operation by carrying out aerial flights over the region, but have, for the first time openly declined to aid in any ground offensive.
Vice Governor of Helmand said that after sustaining heavy casualties in several attacks by the Mujahideen in Deshu, an operation was already being mounted in that region.
Of vital significance is the fact that US troops have openly rejected to carry out ground operations against the mujahideen in Helmand and in the surrounding mountainous regions out of fear of further attacks.
Rocket attacks upon US base
KABUL (AZZAM):
Mujahideen fighters have fired six rockets upon a US army base near the Pakistani border.
No casulaties have been reported by US officials.
A spokesman at Bagram said that the attacks were carried out in the Ashkan region of the Paktia province.
He also affirmed that US troops also sent back retalitory fire, but no mujahideen deaths were incurred.
In kabul US troops are thought to have neutralised several explosives in the North West of the city.

15 Killed in Paktia province by Mujahideen troops
WANA (AZZAM):
Mujahideen troops have ambushed a coalition guard duty team, which has resulted in the death of 15 coalition troops and the destruction of 4 military vehicles.
On Saturday noon, Mujahideen fighters fired several rockets over the guard duty team.
In response to the casualties incurred 17 Apache Helicopters carried out an aerial search of the region.
Confused coalition troops also started a ground search operation in which they raided two tribes.
Five men were arrested from the Zardan tribe and 7 leading elders of the Peerkotai tribe were also taken into custody.
The men were shifted to unknown locations for further investigations.
All 15 body bags were sent to Bagram airbase according to eyewitness accounts.
NATO Take command in Kabul
KABUL (AZZAM):
NATO will command the peace keeping troops in Kabul.
Previously the ISAF was under dual command of both the Germans and the Dutch. 5300 troops from 31 different countires are being posted in and around Kabul by the UN. The change of command ceremony was held in Kabul on Monday.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the German Ambassador were both present at the hand over.
NATO, for the first time in its 54 year history has taken responsiblity for maintaining peace in a country outside Europe.

"Afghans Can't Be Purchased with Dollars" Taliban Press Release
QUETTA (AZZAM):
The Taliban has issued a severe warning to US troops to leave Afghan soil immediately or prepare to suffer the worst defeat in History.
The warning was issued via an official Taliban press release.
The warning was distributed in the in Afghan-Pak border regions through pamphlets.
The warning comprised of statements made by four high-ranking Taliban leaders, namely:
Mulla Akhtar Usman, Mulla Bradar, Mulla Abdul Rauf and Hafeez Ur Raheem.
They also demanded that Afghan troops cease their support for the disbelievers i.e. the US and her allies.
They stated that they had decided that the Afghan nation would never accept foreign rule on their sacred soil.
The Islamic rules and Islam will ever remain the priority of the respected Afghan nation.
They also emphasized that the US can never purchase Afghans with Dollars.
The proclamation ended with a grim warning that The Mujahideen will kill every individual US soldier on Afghan soil and that the US will taste the worst defeat in History.
