Six Marines Killed in Downed US Helicopter in Ghazni
CHAMAN (AZZAM):
Mujahideen shot down a US Apache helicopter in Ghazni killing six US marines, including the pilot.
The helicopter was destined for Kabul from Kandahar when it was shot down over mountainous terrain.
A US military spokesman denied the downing was due to a Mujahideen attack, claiming it crashed due to a technical fault.
Other reliable independent sources confirm that the helicopter was shot down by Mujahideen.
Reports are emerging that in the past few days Taliban supporters have been sited in the Ghazni mountainous region, supporting these reports.
Ten Killed, Three Injured in Ferocious Fighting between Dostam and Atta
DARRA SOOF (AZZAM):
Four fighters in Balkh and six in Sumangan have been killed in Balkh and Sumangan provinces in the recent fighting between the two rival militias of Atta and Dostam.
Three others were critically injured.
General Abdul-Saboor, spokesman for Dostam, said that Atta's militia used machine guns, rockets and various items of heavy artillery in the Sumangan provincial capital of Darra Soof.
He stated that the battle intensified on Sunday.
One innocent civilian was also killed in the Balkh clashes.
The UN office verified the casualties and stated that the situation in the province is critical.
