二日前のニュースですが米英軍は900人以上の戦争捕虜を開放したそうです。
開放の理由は「米英軍が拘束する必要が全くなくなったため」とのこと。
また、彼らは「非戦闘員」であったかもしれない。と発言しています。
現在、まだ6850人もの捕虜が戦場で拘束されているそうです。
Maj Ted Wadsworth（ペンタゴンの報道官）の発言。

これって米軍にとって「必要なくなったから」開放したのであって、もし戦闘が彼らに思わしくない方向に流れていたら、非戦闘員だろうが何だろうがいまだに拘束していたということですよね？

Coalition forces have released more than 900 Iraqi PoWs, beginning the process of sorting through the thousands detained during the month-long war.

“We stated from the beginning that we don’t want to hold anybody any longer than absolutely necessary,” said Maj Ted Wadsworth, a Pentagon spokesman.

“The process of sorting people to determine their status has begun.”

Those released were deemed to be non-combatants, he said, meaning they did not engage in hostile acts during the war and were not part of a military force.

They may have been civilians caught up in the fighting, he said, adding that warring factions have a right and an obligation to take from the battlefield anyone who is at risk to their security or who may be in harm’s way.

Taking into account the releases announced today, coalition forces now hold 6,850 Iraqi prisoners who were on the battlefield, he said.
