PA Accuses US of Targeting Palestinian Embassy In Baghdad

Jerusalem (CNSNews.com) - The Palestinian Authority accuses the U.S. of deliberately targeting its embassy in Baghdad.
The building was apparently hit by a missile during a U.S. assault late Monday afternoon and badly damaged.
It's not clear if the building was a target in the air strike.
"The U.S. aggression on the embassy was premeditated and singled out, direct[ly] targeting the Palestinian embassy, which is located in the diplomatic neighborhood in the Iraqi capital," a Palestinian National Authority spokesman said in a statement published on the Palestine Media Center website on Tuesday.
The PMC describes itself as an "independent official institution" under the direct supervision of Yasser Abed Rabbo, the PA Minister of Culture and Information.
"No other embassies were targeted by bombing, which proves that the targeting of the Palestinian embassy was premeditated and not an accident," said the spokesman, who was described as "official" but not named.
"The embassy was hit by an air-to-ground missile launched by the US military aircraft at 04:00 p.m.

.
The building of the embassy was severely damaged as its roof and all its contents and assets were destroyed," he said.
He condemned the attack as a "a flagrant violation of all diplomatic norms and laws, which endow foreign embassies with immunity, safety and consider them outside the theatre of military operations."
He also warned against targeting Baghdad's civilian neighborhoods, which are home to Palestinian refugees, and hinted that such a neighborhood was the target of U.S. bombing on Sunday.
The U.S. has repeatedly said that its targets are purely military although there have been cases of civilians being wounded.
Israeli expert Yiftah Shapir of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies in Tel Aviv said earlier that it is "inevitable" that there will be civilian casualties in a war of this kind.
Palestinians have made no secret of their opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have participated in pro-Iraqi demonstrations, waving pictures of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and burning U.S., British and Israeli flags.
At least two Palestinian terrorist organizations have said they sent members to Iraq to become suicide bombers against allied troops.
Saddam has been one of the most faithful supporters of the Palestinian intifadah uprising during the last 30 months.
Despite the siege against him, the Iraqi leader has continued to distribute payments of $10,000 each to families of Palestinian suicide bombers and terrorists killed in attacks against Israel.
